I only saw Kotkaniemi play a lot so far since he plays on my team. He did very very well and will start the season with MTL, but I don't think he will be in the calder race.

Having no clue, as the Calder is so hard to predict. I'll say Pettersson is probably the most talented forward, Svechnikov is probably the best combination of talent and being NHL ready, and Dahlin could figure things out quickly enough to have a big impact. That would be my three leading candidates.

Gonna be very difficult for Dahlin to win the Calder. Looking at the 3 Dmen who won the Calder since 2000:

2003 Jackman. Won by a slim margin over the highest scoring rookie forward Zetterberg with 44. Jackman put up 19 while playing 20 minutes a game.
2010 Myers. Won by a solid margin. Highest scoring forward finished 3rd in Duchene with 55. Myers put up 48 while playing 23:44 per game.
2015 Ekblad. Won by a slim margin over Stone and Gaudreau who both finished with 64. Ekblad put up 39 while playing 21:49 per game.

Average scoring for the rookie forwards that won the Calder has been 72 points since 2000, so the recent years where a Dman has won have all been years where the top scoring rookie forward finished below average.

If a rookie forward puts up 70 points this year I figure Dahlin's going to need to have at least 45 points and very good TOI to have a shot at winning.

E.Petersson should win it but he's on a terrible team who can't score. The next in line:

Kotkaniemi
Formenton
B.Tkachuk
Yamamoto

for D... if Bouchard sticks he might have a chance. That guy is a point-generating machine. Elite passing/vision. Doubt he stays past game 9 because his defensive game needs seasoning.

Svechnikov is still my favourite but Yamamoto being slept on.

6 goals and 9 points in the preseason this year for Yamamoto. I know it’s just the preseason but it’s funny how he’s rarely mentioned as a candidate.

I may be wrong

But Anthony Cirelli isnt eligbible. I'm not sure if playoffs count, but if they do he is over the 25 limit in a single season.

cause they are too embarrassed to acknowledge him after giving him flack last year. BTW did he make the Red Wings?

I have a feeling that Svechnikov is gonna be one of those guys that just puts up strong numbers right out of the gate

wouldn't be at all surprised to see him put up 60+ points this year

OHL MVP Jordan Kyrou.

Starting the year in a top6 role next to Schwartz & Schenn.

Looked super dynamic in camp/preseason and he's already the best skater on the team by a mile.

My top 5 is

Dahlin - If he steps in a plays top 4 minutes gets 35+ points
Pettersson - been told by friends he's Datsyuk Jr
Svechnikov - is a goal scorer and much more could easily get 60 points
Tolvanaen - 30 goal scoring rookie year ?
Tkachuk - playing next to duchene and stone, this line could to sneaky good if they start off hot he will play more than 9 games

I just don't know what forward hits 70 points. Pettersson certainly has the talent, but maybe not on a team like Vancouver who could really struggle to score. I don't really see anyone else that looks like a serious contender to hit 70 points.

Tolvanen was sent down. Kinda doubt he comes up and has a 30 goal year
