He’s definitely not a lock, especially as a dman. Dahlin, pettersson, Mittlestadt, Svechnikov, Cirelli...

If Dahlin's pre-season is any indication, it won't be him.

I like Svechnikov but this year seems wide open.

I think Svetch is probably the front runner followed very closely by Pettersson

My favourite going into this season is Elias Pettersson. Think he'll force himself in the top 5 centre category in the next three seasons.

Dahlin has a good chance but my money is on Pettersson or Svechnikov. Especially Pettersson. I also think Brady Tkachuk will have a very good season

and 99 others

For your viewing pleasure, here's a list of calder-eligible players for this upcoming season that are currently on their respective team's roster on the NHL website. Dahlin is far from a lock with some of the names on this list. At least 21 first round picks will be making their rookie debut and then you've got some solid later round picks like Lindblom and Greenway that could have great rookie seasons.

Pettersson lead all rookies in points in the pre-season, with an abysmal canucks team that went 1-6.

If he can continue his production, especially with the lack of support he has, i can see him winning the calder for sure.

From the little bit I've seen, Elias Pettersson looks fantastic. Otherwise, Dahlin will take it, especially if he hits the ground running.

I don’t think he had more points than Yamamoto

Is Dahlin a lock, or will he be seriously challenged?

Defencemen often take longer to develop and to reach their potential. Add the fact that there is no defensively high-end defenceman in Buffalo, which is what Dahlin needs given his Karlsson-2011:esque offensive adventures.
