    I have been working on a YouTube highlight video of Svechnikov's goals, and it suddenly struck me that the way he scores is so very different from the way Wahlstrom scores.

    Wahlstrom is an incredible sniper with pinpoint accuracy. Most of his goals come from a distance.

    Svechnikov is an incredible finisher with tremendous hockey sense. Most of his goals come from very close to the net, and a lot are scored on one-on-one dekes of the goalie.

    When you put these types of players on the ice with NHL teammates, which one would you rather have? Assuming NHL players can both put the puck on Wahlstrom's stick and generate scoring chances where Svechnikov can capitalize, and assuming they play a roughly equal number of NHL games, which one is more likely to retire with more goals? I'm only talking about goals, not points, since I think Svechnikov will win that category.

    Could go either way, but at this point you have to go with Svech.

    There’s going to be a huge swing on this depending on where Wahlstrom gets drafted.

    If he gets to play with Kane or McDavid, he’s going to score a **** load of goals.

    But Svech is a more versatile goal scorer and better player.

    That's a good point. Wahlstrom is like Mike Bossy. He needs a Bryan Trottier to get him the puck. Playing with Jack Hughes led to great improvement in his production over the second half of the season. Svechnikov can carry a line the way Ovechkin does. I don't see Wahlstrom doing that, as he needs to be fed pucks to be effective.

    He'd be perfect for Gaudreau and Monahan...

    Svechnikov = Hossa

    Wahlstrom = Neal / Pacioretty

    Of course, this is style comparison. But Svechnikov is a bull of a winger who can do it all, while Wahlstrom is a deadly sharpshooter that can pick a corner from distance.

    If Svechnikov ends up a Cane and plays with a Necas / Aho / Teravainen, he could score in bunches.

    Svechnikov is a much better player and will score more goals.

    Wahlstrom needs a Jack Hughes to be very effective. He isn't going to be a driver like Svechnikov.

    While Wahlstrom certainly produced better once Jack Hughes was promoted to the U18 team at the end of 2017 (who wouldn't?) , his scoring still was decent before that when you consider the really poor center he was paired with. To expect anyone to produce anywhere near the same level with Gruden at center instead of Hughes is unreasonable. Wahlstrom still scored 17 goals in calendar year 2017 with Gruden at center.

    That's not what is being asked though. There's no doubt that Svechnikov is the better overall player but who will be the better goal scorer? If Walhstrom ends up on a team with a top tier playmaker he could very well score more goals.

    Very hard to tell, Wahlstrom is the better shooter but Svech is much more well-rounded.

    I’d be tempted to say Svech at this point but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Wahlstrom.

    But didn't I answer it?

    "Svechnikov is a much better player and will score more goals".

    There is a world in which Wahlstrom scores more goals. But, I find it far more likely Svechnikov produces more.

    Svechnikov can absolutely rifle the pill as well. But like Auston Matthews and Jamie Benn who can also shoot bebes, most of their goals come closer to the net because of their hockey sense and nose for the net.

    I think most are saying that Svechnikov is a no doubt top line player in the NHL, if not a star.

    Wahlstrom might be, but is way less of a sure thing.
