As well as pretty much any other actor who is currently close to 40. Looking at around another 3-5 years give or take before another Bond film is shot or released.

That should rule out Hiddleston, Ellis, and others in their age range.

I do kind of like the idea of following a Bond who is just finishing their 00 training. As was hinted in Casino Royale. But it was hard to believe Craig was a fresh graduate of the program. Figure a recent graduate would be late 20’s, 30 max.

Why was it hard? Bond was in the Special Air Service (SAS) for years before moving over the spy work if I recall. In the book Casino Royale he is estimated by most to be 33-35 years old and Craig was 37 so not that far off.

They have always played fast and loose with his age and the actors age in the movies anyway. As you mentioned as a 00 he should have to retire 45 and Connery played him into his 50s.

They were never front-runners. Elba himself denied it. He's too old. The producers made it clear a while ago they need someone young enough to carry the franchise for 10-13 years.
