Obviously Bourque, but what were some other instances of this happening? Off the top of my head, there's Steve Duchesne doing it Detroit in 2002. Lanny McDonald with the Flames in 1989. I know there are some obvious ones that I am forgetting.

habs: butch bouchard, rocket richard, beliveau, claude provost, laperriere, cournoyer (didn't play in the playoffs, but montreal won the cup the year before as well, so he left the game a winner), lemaire, dryden, mario tremblay (didn't play in the playoffs), probably many more that i can't think of

habs that gainey brought to dallas: skrudland, ludwig

europeans who returned to europe: loob, ruotsalainen, jiri hrdina

sad examples: bill barilko, konstantinov

EDIT: also, fetisov.

I think you need to reread the question.

"Who were some notable players to win their first Cup in their final season?"
