Lindros 1990/91, believe he had 71 g 78 a for 149 points, would have to check further seasons, but I believe scoring dropped pretty hard after that.

Tony Tanti was 16 during training camp of the year he scored 81 goals in the OHL. Bill Derlago scored 96 goals in the WHL as an 18-year-old. He got injured the next season and missed 20 games - he still scored 89!!!

Dan cleary had 53 as a 16-17-year-old, Pat Lafontaine scored 104 goals as a Q rookie when he was 17.

Bobby Orr had 34 goals and 93 points as a 16-year-old. That was pretty incredible. Hell - he had 73 as a 15-year-old...and that was on defence!!

Can't forget Mario's '83-'84 reign of terror as a 19 year old. 133 goals!

Sort've figured people knew about that.

Pierre Larouche as a 17-18-year old scored 94 goals and had 251 points. I would have liked to have seen his totals as an 18-year-old if there hadn't been a special exemption and he was allowed to be drafted at 18 along with Mario Tremblay and a handful of others.

I forgot all about Bossy. He scored 70 goals as a 16-year-old..altho he was 17 at the end of the season. Bossy had four straight 70-goal seasons in junior, a record I don't think will be matched.

Tavares would match that if he played a fifth season in the OHL, I think.

Whats so impressive about that? We're asking about 7 goals, and you show us 5 and 18?

But he won't.

The reason I say it won't be matched is because players get drafted at 18...they were drafted at 20 in Bossy's day.

A junior comes along that has four straight 70 goal junior seasons he's not going to be playing there any longer than he's allowed to.

The main question is can Tavares get 70? He needs 3 in his last 5 games and although it's hard to believe he wouldnt, it still isnt written in stone. He could technically end up with 75 goals. Either way by 2009 he should be head and shoulders above every other draft eligible kid in a way that Crosby, Lindros and Lemieux were.

Then the record means nothing, because of rules, draft eligibility and WJC's, realistically no one has had a fair chance to beat it! If all players were to play until 20, it's definitely an impressive record and would be a tough one to match. You gotta think Gretzky would have matched it, Crosby and Lemieux wouldn't have done it, although Mario made up for it 2 years later. Tavares should have no problem doing it, depending on injuries and how many games he misses at the WJC's.

70 pt for a defenseman at 16-17 years old

You may want to look at a couple of 16 year old D's named Del Zotto and Pietrangelo who have 56 and 50 points so far this year............. point being 70 pts is great but not on the same level as 70 goals , which is what this thread is about.
