That's kind of the other concern I have ... even if lets say you do find a way to dump Lucic ... is running off to the UFA market to sign another bloated UFA deal really even smart to begin with?

Almost certainly not for a big UFA signing. But to open up cap to facilitate a trade of someone in their mid-20s who can bolster the top-6 might be worth it. But do we have the assets to both add to Lucic to dump him and add an impact top-6 winger? It's gonna sting, and again may not be worth it in the long run. May have no choice but to invest super heavily in amateur scouting and make an all out effort to be one of the best drafting teams in order to right this ship. Again, though, no easy task. There's simply no easy way out of our situation.

Team has little cap room so getting an overpaid UFA with term (and declines after age 32) is a financially impossible

Fixed.

Seriously, it's almost impossible to speculate without out knowing what trades and/or buyouts happen before free agency. Trading Sekera, Russell and Benning is the difference between 8 million in capspace and 20 mil in capspace.

Gretzky was on the right track offering up Pulju if a team takes Looch. It also gets much more appealing July 1st when Lucic’s salary drops to 4 per. If you still have to add a bit more to that, so be it. That or trade him for a guy like Wennberg (saves Columbus 5.4 million).

You can’t buy him out, and retention screws us over long term. Just give up the assets and move on.

Jesse P does not have much value right now, whether we want to admit it or not
