These two high-profile signings in summer 2016 failed to live up to expectations in their first years with their respective clubs. Who scores more points this year?

That's not the question, though. The question is "who will score more points?", not "who is the better player?". A player's situation can definitely factor into that, which likely explains why Brouwer was a more efficient producer last year.

Eriksson has shown he can score 30 goals while being a top two way winger - I'd imagine he is the more likely choice even factoring in Vancouver. He fights an uphill battle, no doubt.

Aside from 12/13, Brouwer has only ever outscored Eriksson due to Eriksson getting hurt. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that Eriksson will be better next year, and will score more points. Both might be bad contracts, but Eriksson should at least still be productive

Was Eriksson that bad last year?

Isn't he kind of defacto top 6? Should be him easily. Unless they really want to throw Brouwer a bone and put him with Backlund.

Eriksson. Brouwer will be a staple of our 4th line this year.

The line-up looks a lot more balanced if he's with Backlund and Frolik. He can't be as bad as he was last year.

If Backlund can make Bouma and Colborne look good why not Brouwer.

I agree. I think he'd mesh well with Backlund and Frolik.

Why would we break up our best line to accommodate Troy Brouwer?

I'd prefer to bring a bit more balance to the lineup. The Backlund line will still produce, and will be capable of being that shutdown line, but it also makes the 3rd line a much bigger threat.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Brouwer - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Versteeg
??? - Stajan - Lazar

This changes completely if Calgary does end up signing Jagr though. In that case, I'd keep Tkachuk on the 2nd line, and go with Versteeg - Bennett - Jagr

Anyways, back to the subject on hand. I'd say Eriksson is a safe bet.

So we could have three lines that are threats. I seriously think Backlund and Frolik can improve anyone. They won't be analytics darlings with the Brouwer from Tkachuk downgrade but they'll still be good and Tkachuk would massively help out Bennett.

Doesn't even need to be Brouwer. Try Versteeg or Lazar there. I just really think Tkachuk should be with Bennett.

What happened to Eriksson anyways? He seemed like a pretty reliable source of 60-70 points a season for a while, and then his production suddenly fell off an escarpment.

Anyways, he'd be my pick, just because he's proven that he has more upward point potential.

Bad year on a terrible team most likely. He had 30 goals and 63 points the year before so it might be nothing

We don't need to saddle Backlund and Frolik with Brouwer in order to have Tkachuk play with Bennett.

I'd be more than happy to see Jankowski there as well. I just can't believe Brouwer doesn't have anything to offer. He was a solid middle six guy two years ago.

Would love to keep Bennett, Tkachuk & every other rookie away from Troy.
Though, being completely fair, last year was beyond horrendous for Brouwer. Even in comparison to his career; last year was a massive blip on the radar of repugness. Have to hope the guy can return to form and be a solid contributing middle 6 RW.

Problem is, you don't want to split the 3M's. You don't want him with Bennett. He didn't work with Mony/Johnny... so, you have a 4th line.
