What players are worth 20% of the salary cap?
Nobody. You need balance in a salary cap world.
if it means I get to take him from another team without any assets given up.. any top 15 player in the league
You don't think McDavid is worth 15mil?
20% is so much
Maybe a shooter tutor with no openings.
Mcdavid is easily worth 15mil. Id do it in a heartbeat versus me not having Mcdavid.
No one until a GM screws up and sets the market which is not likely to happen in the cap era, imo.
No player should get that much.
That said there are plenty out there who you could nominate I suppose. Like where would Boston be without Bergeron. Anaheim without Getzlaf. And ya Edmonton without McDavid.
Can’t see a guy ever asking for it. NHL is one of the few places where it’s ok for your teammates to hit you daily. Sharing is caring!!!!
For a GM trying to build a Cup contender?
As a UFA on the open market? 5 year deal?
McDavid, Matthews, Mackinnon.
2006 Brad Richards managed to get one.
As a FA? Sure, I would offer him league max $16 mill. On a 1st contract where he has no leverage, not even salary arbitration? No.
No, but I could see why people would offer it.
Maybe in the alternative reality, where isnt a salary cap.
McDavid is the only player
And even then I don't think anyone should take max pay if they want to win a cup
Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, and uh let's throw in Kadri.
Hopefully Arizona offersheets Matthews a max contract. Would make sense for them.
20% of infinity? That's a lot of money.
It would not make any sense for Arizona to give up all those draft picks.
When you can have the #1 hometown boy one to a city thst badly needs a hero it makes sense to give up a few max domis.
At the same place where they are now. They'd be somewhere close to bottom fighting for picks.
I know this one. Pacioretty! Domi?
I was just coming here to post the Max Pax joke and you beat me to it. Goddammit!!!
Giving up four first round picks would be horrible for Arizona. Those could all be easily top 5 and not just "a few max domis".
They could be, but I actually think they will be contending for the playoffs every year starting next year. Assuming they don't get hit by the injury bug or Raanta ****s the bed completely.
Every franchise player up for contract in their year...
