It's had it's ups and downs, but for the most part, you have all be lovely people and in the heyday, this site was quite compelling. So this is a goodbye and perhaps someday I'll unknowingly bump into some of you at a Sabres game or in and around Buffalo.

I'll add this: I used to intern with the Bills as part of the BOCES program. Initially, it was part of the public relations department, but I was a building rat and got to know the scouting interns. They let me help out there too. I was there for the 1994-95 season.

I got to see some really neat stuff. Back then, scouts sent in faxed reports over a cell phone. My job was to receive, make copies, and file them. I read a lot. The scouts also had VCR tapes for the coaches to get a read on team and scheme fit. My job was to run the forward and rewind for the coaches as they watched. If you are aware of the stories I've written for Buffalo Rumblings, that's how I understand schemes and the history of the game. If you look at the coaching staff in 1994-95, you can see who I learned from.

I also got to be in the Bills draft room for the 1995 draft. Granted, I was in charge of making sure coffee was always made, soda machine tanks changed out when empty, and snacks available, but I paid attention.

Alexander Mogilny
Eligibility: 15th year

If Paul Kariya (Class of 2017) is in the Hall of Fame, it stands to reason Mogilny should be too. Mogilny played 990 NHL games, one more than Kariya, and had 71 more goals (473-402) and 43 more points (1,032-989). Mogilny won the Stanley Cup with the Devils in 2000 while Kariya never won the Cup. They each won gold medals at the Olympics (Mogilny with the Soviet Union in 1988, Kariya with Canada in 2002), the World Championship (Mogilny 1989, Kariya 1994) and the World Junior Championship (Mogilny 1989, Kariya 1993)...also Kariya never scored 127pts/76G in 1 season, not even close. Almo was better defensively, while Paul was crap & soft.

Occupation: unemployed currently, but i was a dealer at the casino in Niagara Falls for 15 years. Before that I was President of the union for New Era cap before our plant closed Downtown.

Sabres Fan Since : 1983 i was 11 years old and i had a paper route and I would fill hockey stickerbooks and go to the arcade with my extra money. Year we drafted Phil Housley.

Fan during 1978-1983 when I went to UB. Grew up down by NYC so I started as a Rangers fan, now in Nashville since 92 so I’m a Preds fan. But I’ve always liked and hoped for the best for the Sabres and Bills.
Favorite guys ? Probably Gare Korab & Playfair .... lol, I like the fights.
Talking about the old bars, I was able to enjoy Cassidy’s, Mickey Rat’s, Third Base, PJ Bottoms, and so on. Maybe all gone now. It’s funny, Third base was the Wurst Place in my Freshman year, and PJ’s was some old-man British type joint. Then they got remodeled in 79 or 80. Those places probably went back to 1930 lol. Cassidy’s burned down, I guess. They used to have 50 cent beers and 10 cent wings, imagine that. But then again, 40 years ago, that was not as cheap as it seems today.

Anyway, I wish you guys best of luck and a good turnaround. Build around Eichel, he’s still a top 5 guy when everything shakes out properly.
I was loving the Bills this year. They were better than the Jets and Titans !

Welcome! Your English is better than many of us native speakers / writers. Buffalo area population grew between the years ~1880 through WWI due in part to a large influx of (Catholic) Polish immigrants following the Franco-Prussian war. There is still a reasonably large percentage of people in the Buffalo area with Polish heritage / ancestors. Although I am not of Polish ancestry, and no longer live in the Buffalo area, I find it amusing when I can correctly pronounce Polish last names that confuse many of my Southern USA neighbors and colleagues.
