So, I promised a new poll series before the season, and with training camp just getting going, I figured it is as good a time as any to start.

I'm asking who is the best Sabre all-time whose last name started with the letter "A"? This is for their time with the Sabres, and I'm arbitrarily selecting a 50 game minimum as a Sabre.

Of course, I'll run through the rest of the alphabet, up until the regular season starts.

Let the voting begin!

NHL career or Sabres tenure only?

I go with AlMo both for the circumstances of his arrival in North America, and his impact on BUF and the NHL. AlMo's career was cut short by injury. Over a PPG player in both BUF and for his career in NHL.

Aside from his 5-goal game against BOS, I remember AlMo's highlights more than Andy.

And that's no knock on Andy.

I do specify it is for their time with the Sabres only.

It's also by last name, so if you are talking about Alex Mogilny, he will be coming up in the "M"'s...

Went with Andreychuk even before I looked at the options. Afninogenov vs Audette for 2nd place would be an interesting debate. Max was on the more competitive teams, and I just loved how electric he was, but Audette had some good numbers.

I was just thinking that about the debate for second. I loved Max and think Lindy did him a disservice the last handful of years by putting him with Mair and Ellis types.

But Audette was super reliable and really skilled. I'm leaning towards him but it's close.

Gotta go with my fave Sabre of that era, Max. Subjectivity all the way on this one.

BUT Andreychuk is my favorite "uk", over Malarchuk and Wakaluk. And John Tucker.

What went wrong with Shawn Anderson's career? Drafted #5 overall (THN had him ranked #2), but could never hold down a spot on the roster. The few times I saw him play in Buffalo it looked like the effort was there.

Four picks later, the Rangers drafted Brian Leetch.

The answer is Andreychuk and I don't think it's particularly close. But I can't go against my avatar and one of my all time favorite players. So I'm going with the player I enjoyed watching the most.

Oh and one more thing - the international tourney version of Max was the greatest hockey player of all time! :thumbu:

The argument could have been made for Audette had injuries not taken their toll, and if he had a longer career with the Sabres...He was good and fun to watch for sure....Went with Andreychuk though.
