Should we stop at 20? 25?

I went with Alex Grenier. Big guy, 6'5" RHS, put up 31 points in 37 games with the K-wings last season.

Labate - 2C on his college team
Lain - getting old for a prospect at 23, very low ceiling
Cederholm - defensive D-man, probably has a ceiling on 3rd pairing
Polasek - OK defensive prospect, doesn't produce much offense though
Friesen - small C (5'10") who isn't producing in his first year at the AHL/ECHL level. 22 years old
Myron - Hasn't translated his offensive game at the BCHL level to the ECHL level in his first season in the pros.
Beattie - Last year's 7th rounder with sparse stats at college level

Should have stopped at 5.

I'm not much into debates and comparisons between clubs about prospects' depth, and going way down the depth chart. It's all about QUALITY. The average club will graduate something like 3 players every 2 years. If they go on to be good to elite, you're laughing, and nobody ought to care one iota where the writers rank your overall farm depth.

Assuming Kassian, Tanev, and even Schroeder have graduated or are close to, here's how I rank our top echelon:

% likelihood of becoming an NHL regular
Horvat 75
Corrado 70
Gaunce 65
Shinkaruk 50
Jensen 50

% likelihood making top 6/4 at some point
Horvat 65
Shinkaruk 65
Corrado 55
Gaunce 45
Jensen 40

Joseph LaBate, bad start but good middle of the season. Showed some promise and could develop into a decent 3rd liner (or if everything aligns, even a top 6 power forward). Tho if he does develop into a power forward type... one has to wonder if he'll be our prospect or go UFA route (looking like what Price is doing since there's only 11 days left). Main reason i haven't really been voting for NCAA prospects...

I went with Grenier as well. Didn't like the pick at the time, still don't, but his upside cannot be denied. It's quite uncommon for a big man to put skill together like he does. It's rare. If he's able to progress offensively in the AHL this year, then things bode well.

Lain is on track to either make the team out of camp (unlikely) or be in line for a call up given an injury to a center (unfortunately likely). That possible NHL game this season is more than can be said for basically every other guy on the list, so despite the low ceiling, I think you gotta go with him here.

So apparently Shinkaruk is more likely to be a top-6 player than he is to make the NHL at all?

went with Lain. Low ceiling, but size, skating and exceptional FO ability are good ingredients to carve out a bottom 6 career.

I just love that it's still not an easy decision here between Labate, Grenier, Cederholm and Polasek (IMO) - even at 20 - as there are still guys with decent upside left. Went with Labate here.

In previous years it would've been something like "Ah who cares, I'll just pick whoever because they're all crap prospects at this point anyway."

If the polling goes to 25, should probably add Mike Williamson and Miles Liberati.

Also, was it ever explained why Anton Rodin was not on the list? The Canucks retained his rights with an RFA qualifying offer, and he is only 22...

Starting to think that Lain is really overrated. He's nowhere close to almost being ready, and has less of a chance to make it than alot of these other guys, in addition to less upside, IMO.
