Two comparable players. Tavares gets the edge in goal scoring and largely not having quite the lows Giroux did, but Giroux gets the edge in playmaking and in peak seasons and scoring finishes.

I'd lean Giroux because he actually finished at the top of the scoring charts more often.

Giroux had a better career. As good or better offensively and much better defensively throughout his career than Tavares.

Who was this playdriving center Giroux played with when he finished 3rd and 4th in Hart voting with 86 and 93 points, respectively?

Was going to post the same thing. Hartnell and a 39 year old Jagr were his most common linemates in the first of his two best seasons.

Giroux actually showed up in the playoffs. Tavares has 1 series win in a 12 year career.

Have you watched Tavares in the playoffs? He singlehandedly drove the Islanders past Florida in that 2016 1st round. His play was Conn Smythe level.

He's also led all 3 of those Islanders playoff teams in points each year. 2nd on the 2019 Leafs and 4th on the 2020 Leafs.

Not a fair argument when you could say the exact same thing about the teams Giroux has been on lately and how he's performed.

Giroux in the legendary series against the Penguins in 2012 was a sight to behold, he scorched the Penns so much that I think he was still the leading scorer of the playoffs even by like Round 3.

Plus he called JVR a pigeon. He gets my vote hehe

So the only team Tavares has beaten in his career is the Florida Panthers? 11m to finish 2nd and 4th in team scoring, it's no wonder the leafs haven't gotten better since signing him.

Meanwhile Giroux was beasting it up against prime Crosby and Malkin.

Have you? He's had one single series in his entire career where he was great; that first round versus Florida. He was terrible in the second round that year, and he's ranged from average to decent every other year.

Seriously, this myth that Tavares is some kind of playoff performer boggles my mind. Minus that one Florida series, just take a look at his playoff production.

And you're gonna say those Islander teams were equal to the Flyers Teams Giroux was on? Giroux has been to the Stanley Cup finals because his team around him was actually good enough to do it.

Did you notice how bad those Islander teams actually were? Tavares was great but he was the only driving force there for so many years until Lee started scoring and then Barzal came and played with him for 1 year. They've had a large rotation of early first round pick failures going through their franchise.

It is close but I see a slight edge to Giroux. One of those guys that has flown under the radar for a big part of his career for whatever reason. That's an impressive resume right there.
