Of the century? How are either of those better than Gretzky in 1984-85? He won the scoring race by 73 points and was +98 on the season. Or Bobby Orr in 1969-70 when we won the scoring title and every award.

Ovechkin had the best full season of the century.

Ovechkin curb stomped Malkin for Hart voting in 08-09 (115 first place votes to 12) and then went 1.5 PPG in the playoffs with 11 goals and 21 points in 14 games plus minus plus 10.

Malkin takes it due to his playoff run.

Art-Ross + Smythe is not too shabby either.

Losing in the second round though...Ovechkin does not qualify here if we're talking about reg season+playoffs.

Ovechkin went head to head with Malkin in that second round and was the far superior player, just like the regular season.

I do not know how anyone could fault Ovechkin for that series.

He curb stomped him in voting for "most valuable" because Malkin had a 102 point teammate. 14 playoff games doesn't turn the worst regular season of his 3 year peak into the best overall season of the century

There is a difference between faulting Ovechkin and giving credit to Malkin. Its no guarantee that Ovechkin would've had 36 pts had he won the cup.

So Crosby factoring in on 50 of Malkin's points that regular season is somehow a disadvantage?

Crosby is all over these scoring logs:

Malkin. Art Ross+ Smythe. There is something extremely special about winning this two in the same season. Also the first player since Mario 91-92 to sweep both scoring titles.

149 points in 106 games. The best full season since Lemieux Gretzky days.

Nearly identical consistency between the two. In the regular season, Sakic had a point in 62 of his 82 games, Malkin had a point in 64 of his 82. Malkin had an assist in 54/82, a goal in 30/82. Sakic had an assist in 44/82, a goal in 42.
Playoffs, Malkin had a point in 18 of 24, an assist in 15, and a goal in 10 of 24. Sakic had a point in 16 of his 21 playoff games, an assist in 12, a goal in 10 of 21.
Malkin- 106 games, point in 82 of them, assist in 69, goal in 40/106
Sakic- 103 games, points in 78, assist in 66, goal in 52 of 103.
