Lets pretend for a second the Wild face the Flames in the conference finals. Who would have home ice? Wild have more points but are a wild card, Flames have less points but are a 3 seed...anyone know?

Home-ice advantage through the first two rounds goes to the team that placed higher in the regular-season standings. In the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, home-ice advantage goes to the team that had the better regular-season record -- regardless of the teams' final standing in their respective divisions.

In this case - third round - the Wild.

Last year in the ECF the Habs were a 3 seed and the Rangers were a 2 seed and the Habs had home ice.

Same rules that have always applied to the SCF. A team could finish first in their conference and face the 3 seed from the other conference, and the 3 seed could have home ice.
