Thanks that's a pretty cool table! Did you also compile the actual players somewhere? I'd have fun just looking through that haha.
    Montreal is allergic to forwards....

A majority of their roster is from their own picks? If I had to guess about the others there must be a couple from the E.K trade playing in Ottawa, Pavelski, Thornton, Brendan Dillon and a couple less-known players.

Would be a lot of work to post them all but just with the Ducks example, 26 of 27 are their draft picks. If you Google 'Anaheim NHL draft history' should be able to find them.

Since San Jose has quite a few undrafted free agents will add a list of their 32 players in the table:

    Barclay Goodrow (fa)
    Charlie Coyle
    Chris Tierney
    Colin Blackwell
    Dylan Gambrell
    Frederik Handemark (fa)
    Joe Pavelski
    Joel Kellman (fa)
    John Leonard
    Josh Norris
    Kevin Labanc
    Logan Couture
    Matthew Nieto
    Michael Sgarbossa (fa)
    Nick Bonino
    Noah Gregor
    Patrick Marleau
    Ryan Carpenter (fa)
    Sean Kuraly
    Timo Meier
    Tomas Hertl

    Dylan Demelo
    Jason Demers
    Justin Braun
    Marc Edouard Vlasic
    Mario Ferraro
    Matt Irwin (fa)
    Matt Tennyson
    Nikolai Knyzhov (fa)
    Radim Simek (fa)

    Carter Hutton (fa)
    Thomas Greiss

In post #10 above I did list all of the undrafted free agents in the league at that time (Feb 2020), which may help.

    Edit:

    Here's the Habs list:

    Alex Galchenyuk
    Arturi Lekhonen
    Brendan Gallagher
    Daniel Carr (fa)
    Jake Evans
    Jesperi Kotkaniemi
    Max Pacioretty

    Alexander Romanov
    Jarred Tinordi
    Joel Hanley (fa)
    Mikhail Sergachev
    Nathan Beaulieu
    PK Subban
    Ryan McDonagh

    Carey Price
    Jaroslav Halak

(also can now add Victor Mete to the table)

Thanks that's very impressive! Did you automate the search, or do you have to manually pull that info out?

Crazy how Montreal managed to stay afloat despite that drafting, although that list of D looks pretty good... sad that they're all gone except Romanov (and Mete lol).

Average points per player is interesting. Avalanche win by a landslide, 42, 6 with Tampa Bay in second with 35,8.

Copy the year end stats into a spreadsheet, add a column for who drafted each player and then sort by that column is basically what I do. Then use the sheet as a basis, updating it for the new season which is the real challenge as rosters are constantly changing. plan to redo completely once year end stats are available.

Habs measurable draft history currently is (fill in the blank). I try just to provide the numbers without comment. There's lots of draft analysis out there using different methods. The tables above are simple comparisons open to different interpretations.

Guess my general comment, from running these type numbers for many years, is I've seen the correlation between teams who consistently draft well and success on the ice.

Quality over quantity I guess, they have both drafted some very gifted offensive players.

Thornton is a Boston 1st overall pick, Dillon is a Dallas (AFAIR) pick. A lot of their roster are FA signings from Europe in their early 20s.

Made a comparison of first round draft picks by team who have played this season (including games of February 10, 2021).

To explain the numbers, 14 of Anaheim's own first round picks have played in the NHL in 2020-21 so far. Of those 14 players, 8 played with the Ducks, the rest with other teams. The 10 players (all 1sts column) represent the 1sts who have played with the Ducks this season (drafted by all teams).

To explain the table, using the Ducks as an example, 37 players drafted or originally signed by them played in the NHL in 2020-21 regular season (2 goaltenders+17 dmen+18 forwards). They combined for 155 goals and 446 points, broken down by dmen (39+172) and forwards (116+273).

Also included in the total points are goaltenders assists (40 total). At least all teams played the same number of games this season, albeit within their divisions.
