Instead of attacking the messenger, why don't you defend your position the way Russell defended his?

Just to be clear - I wasn't attacking the messenger I was attacking the message. Sorry if it came across as a bit harsh but I felt like I had to defend old # 6. OK - here's just a few things to look at:

- 11 NBA Championships ( including 2 as Player-Coach ) in a 13 year career
- 5 time NBA MVP including 3 seasons ( 1961-63 ) in a row
- averaged 22.5 rebounds per game
- still holds the record for rebounds ( 4,104 / 24.9 per game ) in the Playoffs
- named to the NBA's 25th Anniversary Team ( 1971 ), the NBA's 35th Anniversary Team ( 1981 ) and the NBA's 50th Anniversary Team ( 1996 )

Anyway - you might not think he belongs on any " Top .... " list but I certainly do so I guess we'll just agree to disagree here.

What exactly is the argument for Duncan in the top 10, but not Garnett?

At their best, the numbers point to Garnett being the better player

Because stats don't do Duncan justice , and he was a flat-out better player.

Longevity and overall success.

You could argue Garnett would have been top 10 if him and Duncan switched places but that's not the reality we live in.

Garnett is 5th all-time in games played, Duncan is 10th

And team success is irrelevant in a discussion about the talent level of individual players

Garnett last made an All-NBA team at 31. Duncan at 38.

And team success IS relevant. Because with Duncan the Spurs were a powerhouse for 18 straight years. And Duncan was the best player on 4 title teams.

The only thing that matters is how that player performed. The game's outcome is irrelevant

Players who shoot 42% in their prime and hog the ball are not conducive to winning basketball games, regardless of how "exciting" their style was.

Remember when the Sixers became terrible after trading him? Remember when the Nuggets got way better after acquiring him? Me neither.
Isn't Lebron a ball hog?
