Canadian Hockey peaked in the year 2014.

We will never see an all rounded team that strong again for decades.

To answer the question as to who the top six D men are now I would go with.

Giordano - Pietrangelo
Chabot - Weber
Makar - Doughty

Extras would be Rielly and Parayko.

Call me a dinosaur if you want but that lineup will not give up many goals.

In your head
A national top 6 containing Rielly is not a great top 6.
I love that of all the players mentioned in this thread - you pick Rielly out of the bunch - so Leafs obsessed lol

But I do agree that the Canadian D depth doesn't look too great
LOL, you are really underrating Rielly. Every team in the league would love a 20 goal scoring defenseman.

Rielly - Parayko
Makar - Pietrangelo
Gio - Hamilton

Weber being the wildcard depending on his health at that point...also depends on the ice surface.

I think on international ice, you need strong, explosive skaters like Rielly/Makar as well, so I may end up subbing in Gio for i.e. Chabot down the line as well.

Not Leaf obsessed. Just pointing out how terrible Rielly is at playing defense.

No, he's really not. 20 goal defensemen are a lot less valuable when they play like complete trash in their own end. No reason any coach in their right mind would take this pylon when there are so many options available capable of actually playing defense.

They can figure out their handiness. No chance Rielly should make any Canada list and I'm shocked at how crappy Canada's D depth really has become over the years.

If someone like Hamilton is making it, Rielly shouldn't be wholly ruled out. It could also be argued that a team which already has Chabot and Makar doesn't need Rielly or Hamilton.

Btw, Doughty is donezo right? (relative to before)

No Doughty isn't done by any means and he is still in the top 6 for Canada and will be for a while.

Balancing out LD and RD, and offensive and defensive d-men.

Chabot - Doughty
Giordano - Makar
Rielly - Pietrangelo

(HM: Burns, Letang)

Also ignoring handedness Hamilton, Weber, Parayko and I'm probably missing a couple of others are also in the mix depending on personal preference.

Canada's top-6 of today is not as scary as it has been in the past.

Lindholm-Hedman

OEL-Karlsson

Ekholm-Dahlin

Probably as good or better.

Morrissey Doughty
Rielly Parayko
Makar

That’s who I’d send. Keeping in mind when this happens I likely don’t include a few of the veteran guys although I’d add one of Gio, Weber and Letang based on who’s playing at the highest level of them as the club is selected
