White jerseys at home?

Can someone explain why that rule even exists?

Just go primaries, and if they are to similar wear alternates (doesn't have to be white).

Fans can match team colours
Teams can wear white at home if it is their main colour (Winnipeg, maybe others)
Fans see different coloured jerseys
Fans will see both their teams jerseys
Teams don't have to travel with two sets.

Anyone have a problem with this system?

They do, however, I believe the rule is that if you choose to wear your alternates, you must wear them throughout the playoffs. If you'll note, for instance, Washington is wearing their alternates this year.

For the 2002, 2003, and 2004 playoffs the Leafs were wearing their alternate jerseys. In 2002 and 2003 they would wear them at home since white was for the home team and in 2004 they would wear them on the road when the change was made.

For the 2013 playoffs the Leafs were wearing their brand new alternate jersey for their homes games which was this one.
