It's crazy how this draft turned out.

So which group of ten players would you pick to start your franchise?

With the resurgence of Ryan Murray, this leans to the top 10 even with Reinhart & Yakupov at the top.

The next 10 only has Grigorenko as a busts so that is a factor in its favor. Just think the number of top 4 defenseman in the top 10 is too crazy to pass up.

Surprised top 10 is winning.

I go with next 10 easily. Worse defensive core but way better forwards and they have Vasi so I doubt top 10 would be scoring on them much.

I have them pretty even.

Yakupov < Forsberg

Reilly
> Ceci
Lindholm > Wilson (but close)
Dumba < Hertl (but close)

The Next Ten wins 6-4

If I get to pick the coach and can develop them from draft day, top 10 but sadly it's closer than it should be.

The next 10, just don't provide the same impact as the top 10.
After Forsberg, there is not much, definitely not a bigger impact.

I wonder if Yakupov ever comes back to the NHL new and improved with vengeance on his side. He has 22 goals in the KHL this year. I doubt he ever becomes a point per game player, but maybe he can reach 60 points in the NHL after playing in the KHL. (trying to find his mojo)

I am with you there. The Bolts took Koekkoek in the top 10 in which was a complete bust, just like Nail Yakupov . That Vasilevskiy fella is kinda, ……...well doing GREAT!!! Ok everyone certainly can have an opinion, and I love that fact.

He is a top line winger on the defending Cup champs, and very effective at what he does.

I do think Hampus is the better player, but Tom Wilson is a useful tool. Make of that what you will.
Tom Wilson physically plays on the first line, he is not a first line talent

Basically this is three bonafide top pairing D-men in Rielly, Trouba and Lindholm (all 3 arguably #1s on many many teams), along with two guys who are at least #3s in Murray and Dumba and a 2nd line W/C in Galchenyuk, vs a 1A centre in Hertl, top line wingers in Teravainen and Forsberg, a middle six winger in Wilson and a franchise goalie in Vasi.

It's close, but I think I lean the first group because having that many good d-men is rare.

Dew drops and rainforest
Reilly (#1D)
Galchenyuk (1st line F)
Lindholm (#1/2 D)
Trouba (#1/2 D)
Dumba (#1/2 D)
Murray (top 4 D)

vs

Vasilevskiy (Elite #1G)
Forsberg (1st line F)
Hertl (1st line F)
Teravainen (1st line F)
Wilson (top 6 F)
Ceci (top 4 D)

Tough call but having Reilly, Lindholm, Trouba and Dumba is too much. Going with the first 10.

I don’t see how the 2 best players aren’t Vasi and FF by a lot

Reinhart < Girgensons

Pouliot < Teravainen

When people do this kind of thing, do they not realize you can switch these around in orders and get a different result?

Reilly > Hertl
Lindholm > Teravainen
Galchenyuk > Girgensons
Trouba > Ceci
Dumba > Laughton
Murray > Grigorenko

Koekkoek < Forsberg
Reinhart < Faksa
Yakupov < Vasilevskiy
Pouliot < Wilson

The First Ten wins 6-4

This is just to show you how ridiculous it is to compare this way. Why should it matter that the first group has more guys winning their 1v1s while Vasilevskiy is being compared to Yakupov.

Sum of parts is the only way to compare groups of players, otherwise the extremes (top end and low end) get dismissed.

It's how the Davis Cup works in tennis.

Depends on if you’d rather build around D or around F+G.

Rielly-Trouba
Lindholm-Dumba

That’s a pretty awesome top-4 D. But up front all you’ve got is Galchenyuk who is a solid second liner. On the flip side, the next ten has a top-6 of

Forsberg-Hertl-Teravainen
Wilson-Faksa-Girgensons

Is pretty awesome, especially that first line, even if the only D is Ceci.

The kicker for me is Vasilevsky. I’d rather have a dominant first line and a Vezina caliber goaltender than a great top-4 D without a Norris caliber #1D (Rielly isn’t one, don’t @ me). Next ten for me.

With top 4 D being at a premium, I think you have to take the group with

Rielly-Trouba
Lindholm-Dumba

That's a solid top 4 for a long time.

Forwards are much easier to aquire later.
