In all fairness to Malkin, even if he remains healthy only has an outside chance of winning the Art Ross over McDavid.

If McDavid is the best drafted player since Lemieux (and I believe he is), he will separate himself from the pack this year. 120-130 points is a real possibility. I don’t think Malkin’s ceiling is at that level.

Malkin wins the Art Ross every third year not coached by Johnston, so hes one year off schedule and seeks revenge - beware

Well went Crosby went from 102 point is rookie season to 120 point the next season, he did it by scoring 14 more power play points but still scored a little bit more on the even strength.

I was talking about players in their primes. Noone attributed Crosby's jump in points to anything other than the traditional improvement shown by players after their rookie campaigns. Mario was 100 point player as a rookie, Wayne did not win the Art Ross as a rookie let alone blowing away the field. Malkin was 18th in scoring as a rookie.

Crosby went from winning the Art Ross with a very high % of PP points in 06/07 to putting up a dominant PPG from 2010 to 2013 with an even more dominant ES PPG. Noone should try to paint Crosby as a PP specialist. And like McDavid, nor should anyone claim that Crosby was better than he was from 2010 to 2013 because he could have had more PP points like he did in 06/07.

Great players simply get their production one way or another. McDavid got his points last year at ES. BTW, last year saw the highest ES scoring since 92/93 so it is not surprising that the leader in ES scoring had one of the highest ES point totals in years.
