Buffalo not running away in this poll is perplexing.

The Sabres are the worst run franchise in sports. Bar none. All time.

Hell no. This stretch isn't really the worst of any NHL team all time, let alone factoring in some NFL teams.

I'm not sure why the beginning of the Senators rebuild (and only 2 years at that) is up here but we're going to ignore the 05/06 - 19/20 Leafs?

This poll just shows the bias towards the Oilers hatred
Hall Eichel Skinner Olofsson Staal Cozens Reinhart Dahlin and they are The WORST, yes, WORST team in the NHL, getting blown out every game

And they still won't fire their coach

was wondering why not the Leafs also, after going so long with no playoffs

Ottawa went through a very rough patch, but absolutely laughable to include them in this group, there are far other worse options. Terrible.

Even during those years you highlighted, we had an excellent run and after the 2 years we have assembled arguably best prospect pool with pieces that look like the makings of an excellent core longterm.

Ton of Oiler first round picks never came close to meeting their potential and some couldn't hack it in the NHL.

The Oilers has many first overall picks, plus they have the best player in the league, and they’re still Garbage McMuffins. It’s easily them; no contest really.

There was definitely a peak period in that range of dates where Ottawa was the laughing stock of pro sports. Less long lived than the other options, but the peak was truly spectacular to watch unfold.

The poll doesn’t ask “who is the worst team right now”. Buffalo would win in a landslide. The idea that there is some “oiler hatred” is profoundly laughable and deeply absurd.

This is turning into a tough one. Never would have thought anyone could beat the 2010-2016 Oilers. You could write a book on all the bad moves. They probably had 2 of the worst 10 trades in the NHL since 2000. They also were terrible with UFA signings (not many outright horrible deals, but just everyone they brought in was bad). Bad at drafting as well

The Sabres are mystifying though. They have Eichel/Dahlin, who are 2 of the better draft picks in the last decade, and still fail. They didnt make that many bad moves (RoR was a horrible trade and Skinner was a bad signing, even at the time)

In hindsight that was the worst but unless you are drafting top 5, MAYBE top 10 draft picks are magic beans, we knew the SECOND it happened Hall for Larsson was bad.

G Reinhart was a bust at the time though. He was a poor skating, non skilled D struggling in the AHL. No upside in that trade. Not to mention the 2015 draft was stacked and this was known at the time

The reason I picked EDM is because of what you just listed off, 8(you could probably add one or two more even) great to OK players that Buf has managed to draft/acquire, while EDM still cant even make a list like that, and when they were dogshit the list was only 3 players.

EDM had terrible coaching, terrible drafting, terrible management, terrible everything. Whereas BUF has a legit chance to right the ship with a simple coaching change, since the talent on that team is nowhere even remotely close to as bad as their record.

So while I would be livid about the coaching situation in Buf if I were a fan, the actual team is not even close to as bad as EDM was before Mcjesus came and things started heading in the right direction.

Never said that was the only thing they needed, just that it could right the ship given the talent on that team. There is no reason that roster should be bottom 5.

Honestly, I believe the Koski contract was Katz throwing one last grenade before he left. He knew he was getting fired, there was no reason to sign such an unproven goalie to that contract with so few games played.
Wait how did we fire the owner?

No I can assure you at the time the trade was made, everyone hated the Reinhart trade. We at least knew we were getting a somewhat young dman that was good defensively in Larsson which is what we needed. In the Reinhart trade we knew as soon as it was announced we were getting a disappointment in exchange for high picks in a deep draft.

Oilers.

Sabres have at least made moves that make sense and tried to make things work.

Oilers were like.. giving away Dubnyk, Petry, Eberle, Hall, etc for nothing.

For the Sabres.

Make some big splash deals in Ehrhoff and Leino that don't pan out. Enter a rebuild.

Make the smart move to acquire a # 1 C in ROR and an excellent goaltending prospect. ROR has a DUI within a few weeks of signing and Lehner has his own personal struggles.

Draft generational pieces in Eichel and Dahlin. Surround them with talent. Still fail.

that is why I have the Sabres the worst. They went out of their way to try and be better and haven’t shown any remote signs of life since Nolan was fired in 2015. Even the Oilers at least were able to escape the bottom 5 and look half decent in 2013. Sabres have had 4 different coaches since their rebuild officially started in 2014 and have have stayed at the bottom 3 for the majority of the last decade.
