Habs are going to have the best 4th line in a very long time... next season.

Domi / Duchene / Shaw
Tatar / Danault / Gallagher
Drouin / Kotkaniemi / Armia
Lehkonen / Poehling / Byron

Bournival - Brière - Weise was probably our best 4th line in recent memory
Moen - Moore - Lapierre was good, but it was our third line, lol

Gainey was great at it, sometimes he would spend the entire offseason doing nothing but building a sweet 4th line. Even his drafts were aimed at finding the perfect 4th liner. You can't find that kind of expertise anymore.

Gauthier was so terrible I think Moore was a fluke
Yeah outside of Moore and Halpern, Gauthier didn't construct a good 4th line. Like the Blair Betts fiasco where the Habs didnt have a 4th line center so they claimed one who failed a physical. Or getting studs like Staubitz, Andreas Engqvist, Aaron Palushaj, Mike Blunden and Petteri Nokelainen.

Bergevin has a so-so track record of 4th liners. From 2012-14 he did solid job getting effective 4th line guys. 2015-2018 was a mix of washed up guys, bottom of the barrel players and some decent players mixed in. It wasnt until February this season that he finally brought in some good bottom 6 guys.

This thread only shows how easy it is to find good bottom liners.

Exactly.

When you cant improve the top 6. You can sign or trade for a bunch of cheap/decent players and play them on the 4th line.

It's not that hard. They usually cost nothing.

Noke wasnt so bad. But to be fair, Gauthier was only in charge for 2 years..

Ideal 4th line you want good defensive players with speed. Ones that can neutralize the other teams top line or second line at least. Gives you an advantage to shut down their best line(s). Anchored by a good faceoff artist. Winning faceoff in defensive zone is best way to cut down on goals scored against. Good penalty killers also. Like for them to add 8-10 goals a piece. What we had last year was next to nothing for a 4th line.

Danault would be ideal 4th liner. He is good defensively, good at faceoffs, shutdown with speed. Can move him up a line for short term in time of injuries/slumps. At 26, like to lock him up for 5 years. Take him thru his prime years until he is 31.

If theirs one thing MB has been consistently good at, it's acquiring depth. Weise dominated the Bruins and made Lucic cry lmao.

I'd still consider Byron a 4 the line player cause that's what he was when he was acquired. Now he's a guy you can plug in anywhere when you have injuries or things aren't working

lol this is so funny....people bashing 4th lines that consist of fighters or "slugs"...as the infantile call them. That's what a 4th line is supposed to look like!! Too many youngsters.

"we need guys who are good in the room and can take a faceoff guys...we need those guys that dont do much of anything but they can skate real well"

This line must provide something different to the rest of the lineup.

I'll go Prust-White-Weise please and thank you.
