Toronto, I had the Jets and the Leafs dead even but after the Muzzin trade it’s the Leafs by a hair. Calgary’s not far behind them. Montreal, despite being close in the standings is not even in the picture, I predict they will fall down the stretch.

That's some ass backwards logic

Adding muzzin didnt change a thing in rankings lol

Flames and jets are clearly ahead right now
Jets were ahead last year and they are ahead this year
Both teams have equally as good of offense and significantly better defense

Flames and jets are just more balanced
Size, speed and skill and defense. Something the the leafs dont have all of

The only thing the leafs have on the flames is goaltending

Isn't it great you say that yet out of the 3 teams, the Leafs have the lowest GA.

Didnt helle have more votes than Anderson last year?
Helle isnt playing his best, but he's been playing better
And brossoit as a back up equals things out

Votes for what? He definitely had a better season last year, but that doesn’t really mean much now. Vezina votes in ‘18 aren't helping him stop pucks in ‘19.

I agree the Jets have a better backup, but that’s kind of irrelevant as long as both starters are healthy. These teams will be judged by playoff success and Sparks/Brossoit are (hopefully) unlikely to be a factor in any of that.

Of course it' relevant. If it wasn't then helle wouldnt be getting 6 mil for the next 5 years

It's evidence of his track record. He's playing better now as he should

And jets have a reliable back up which is a factor going into the playoffs. Anderson could likely be more burnt out by the end of the season

While I give the edge to the leafs. It's not by much head to head against helle
But factor in brossoit playing great
Leafs dont have the x factor there

What does his performance last season and the contact he signed in the summer have to do with how he’s playing now? Are we talking trade values or just whose better in the net? If we’ve got a game tonight and have to pick between the two, who you taking?

His track record shows one good year and a bunch of mediocre?

Anderson is on pace to play his fewest number of games as a Leaf.

A good backup is important, no doubt, but it rarely becomes a factor in the playoffs. It makes more sense, IMO, to just weigh the starters head to head.

I dont feel like explaining why things jn the past can be related to the future.

"A bunch of mediocre years" I think you need to get your facts straight if you want to keep this discussion productive

Anderson looked pretty burnt out last playoffs.

I have no interest in "yeah but" arguments

Head to head I'm still not giving the leafs the clear edge
Comparing an elite goalie to an elite goalie is a pointless debate

You don’t want ‘yeah but’ arguments?

‘Yeah but last year he was better’

‘Yeah but the Jets have a better backup’

‘Yeah but Anderson might be burnt out in the playoffs’

2022 Cup to Calgary
Yep, If you want respect you have to earn it. The Jets fans did it last year. They don’t give the cup to second place in the regular season.

Jets earned respect?

Uh that's not true. They have been annointed since the year 2015:

6819_FWJets-400.jpg

Last year going at this time of year they had 49% the votes in the equivalent poll, with the Leafs at second with 25% and the Flames a distant third with 8.9% :

Next Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup

a point in time their entire organization had yet to win a single playoff game

The only team that has to earn respect is the one that hasn't been handed an NHL lottery win. Because winning the lottery is the equivalent of respect on HFboards polls.

Jets are Canada's media sweethearts.

Leafs are a team that will lose of their RFAs to offersheets.

Thise arent buts. Because those are facts

Fact. Jets were better last year and continue to show they are

Anderson was burnt out last year and played like ass in the playoffs

Helle was absolutely burnt out by the wcf

But yeah :sarcasm:

They noticed winnipdgz drafting and developing strat

Team was going upwards and they were right.

Leafs tanked and got john tavares as a Ufa. Cant really predict shortcuts like that Haha

Always an excuse

An excuse can also be a reason aka the answer

The leafs have a really good goal tender and piss poor defenseman. No one is going to agree that the leafs have as good of defensive roster as the jets or the leafs

No one on the hf boards, no sports analyst

Leafs have less GA currently than Tampa and they have a fantastic goalie. What's the excuse?
Rittich has very good #'s for the Flames right now. Rivals Andersen's.

Do you think it's possible the Leafs D is much better than given credit for?

Actually, none of those are facts..

We’re talking specifically goalies here. As you point out, the Jets have a much deeper bluleine than the Leafs so wouldn’t that be an important variable to consider when weighing last years body of work? I mean, W-L, GAA and Sv% are very much effected by the team you play on and we know how much the voters love their numbers.

Some say Andersen was burnt out, others say he was the only reason it went 7 games? Which is it? Regardless, I’m sure you can see how that’s also a matter of opinion.

You mean it's not allowed to be both?,

Pasta cored the most points in one game against Anderson

I really dont know what you're trying to argue
Elite vs elite goaltending makes it wash
This would be like trying to pick at percentiles with rinne vs helle last year
They're both good. Useless trying to argue which is which
Both teams get the check mark for goaltending
Flames definitely do not
