Currently, they’re both in the top 50. Ovechkin is #48 with 1,188 points and Crosby is #50 with 1,182 points.

They’re both at the point where they’re rapidly shooting up the ranks. Even a conservative prediction puts them at about 1210-1215 points by the end of this season which would place them around 44th.

It’s going to be fun seeing them climb past so many historic players over the next few seasons. Assuming they’re both past the 1200 point mark by seasons end, just 200 more points apiece vaults them into the top 20 all time. Only 13 players ever have surpassed 1500 points. Are they practically a lock to at least finish with 1500 points apiece in your eyes? Is a spot inside the top 8 (who all have at least 1700 points) still a possibility at this point or is that total out of reach?

In b4 arguments about secondary assists shouldn’t be counted and goal scorers are more valuable than playmakers...

Sid could have 500 more points by the end of his career. Ovechkin, the same. That's outside of any extreme injuries or sudden crazy down turns in play.

Sid is incredibly smart and strong in his legs. He will play at a high level for a long time. The questions is more his health, which has been much better these days.

Ovechkin will pot 30 goals a season as long as he wants, add a dash of 20-30 assists a season and he is getting 50-60 points a year.

Sid may end up with more, if they both stay healthy. Ovie is more about how many goals he will end up with.

hard to predict aging, Selanne, Jagr, some player find great sometime surprising longevity, other does not, how the league scoring will move and if there could be room for somewhat Power play specialist for a very long time in the future nhl.

Most point after 13th seasons:

17-18th:

Bossy, Savard, Stastny, Hawerchuck, trottier, Lafleur didn't had much points past that mark making them passable, some with great longevity like Howe, Franchis are certain to past them when adding season.

Between Selanne (#16 with 1457 points ) and Sakic (#9 at 1641 points) like Joe Thornton is doing ?

I hope Crosby can make 1500. I don't think Thornton or Ovie will get there, I think only McDavid has a shot at it. Thus I think Crosby will finish 14th all time ahead of Stan Mikita.

I actually think Stan Mikita is a very comparable player to Sidney Crosby. I think Stan Mikita gets really underrated in best all time lists.

Pretty sure that Ovechkin finishes ahead of Crosby based on durability alone.

Crosby is actually very durable as well. He had a high ankle sprain when he was 20 a couple of concussions (one which was misdiagnosed as a broken neck) and a broken jaw from a puck. His body is durable as any 31 year old. The nhl has changed a lot from when Crosby got injuries. Now Crosby is basically the strongest guy on the ice now I don’t see him getting hurt much plus he plays very conservative compared to his old days.

I think Crosby gets more because he is 31 and ovy is 33

You, uhh, don't think the changes in the league aren't helping Ovechkin as much or more? Really?

He gave fairly sound reasoning and stated the biggest factor in that Ovechkin is a couple years older.

Why does everyone feel the need to jump down people’s throats all the time.

State your own reasons/opinions and move on.

I agree that Crosby can get higher than Ovechkin. Because he’s younger and won’t have the KHL homecoming hanging over his head. Whether OV does end up going over to play for his home country or not remains to be seen.

Either way, they should both end up fairly high up the list.

Crosby with 6 seasons remaining on his contract after this year will likely play at least that long and will be 37 yrs old at the end of that 6th season . If Crosby starts next season with 1210 points and over the 6 seasons averages 75 points per Crosby would have more than 1650 points and might play longer than the 6 seasons remaining on his contract .

I never said that I just don’t think Crosby is as injury prone as everyone thinks. Couple of unlucky breaks, and his knees and back and everything seem to be really good, hence why he’s so strong. Listen Crosby has had a better points per game than ovechkin, and he’s two years younger, that’s basically why I think Crosby will get slightly more, I’m a huge fan of both and hoping ovy cracks the 800+ goals. And yes I’m aware of ovechkins pace this year.

You don't think Thornton will play 1 more season? By the end of this year, he'll only be about 40 points away.
