The Detroit Red Wings' 6th overall pick in last year's draft has seemed to have hit a snag.

With 8 goals and 9 assists for a combined total of 17 points in 28 games and an abysmal +/- of -13, Zadina has hit a mid-season slump from what was a point-per-game stint before WJC.

Speaking of WJ's, Zadina, while playing for Czech, averaged just 2 assists in the whole tourney.

Should we be worried, given that the prospects picked ahead of him (apart from Hayton) have had an astounding start?

What were the Red Wings thinking not picking one of them??

Yeah but have you seen the points he’s gotten? A lot of them are rebound goals or not very pretty. He doesn’t really deserve any of them.
Well, Zadina thrived in the QMJHL with his shot and his work in gritty areas, but, like I said, the talent above him has been stellar, dwarfing the contributions of who we thought would go 3rd overall.

The obsession with Zadina is insane. So many stat watchers.

He's got things to work on in his game but he's also got game breaking ability. Give him time.
As fans we have a right...to be increasingly manic about how a 18-year old is doing playing his favorite game for the sake of our enjoyment.
We're all a little wack, some of us are just a little more so.

And if he was playing in the Q right now he would be the best player in the CHL and no one would be saying anything. Instead hes having a solid AHL rookie season. WJC is irrelevant to me. That whole Czech team was poorly coached and no one scored on that team. Plus Zadina was just returning from injury

Relax, hes progressing fine

Yes! Back to before the draft, Holland had a plan to secure Hughes (projected 6th) and use the remaining picks with a focus in defensive prospects to heal our old OLD blue line.

Why are you making things up? They came out and said that if the wings hadn't taken Zadina, they were likely going to pick Evan Bouchard. I would love to see your source for this "plan" of his. GMs dont usually talk about their plans to the public

Look back at the clip where Zadina is first drafted. Everyone in Detroit remembers what that insider said as a reaction;

"Well Kenny told us he was picking a defenseman!"

Even if you look back at the Red Wings and the way Blashill talked about coaching Hughes, all signs pointed to us taking him.
