Speculation: when are Kraken open for biz re trades

Does anybody have any scoop, official or otherwise, when Kraken will be authorized to do trades? I know they are still getting it together, deciding on GM, etc but just want ballpark idea if there is one atm.

Off season right before they play is when deals would be made official.

They are probably already talking to teams about expansion draft trades and ideas.

And they already have a gm

I don't think they've actually paid all their expansion fees yet (can't remember the article/podcast I heard this on, but it was relatively recent) and once those are paid they can operate however they see fit regarding contracts/trades. Those payments were, in this case, to be paid in instalments.

Vegas was able to start making trades and signing players on March 1st, after they completed their final payment.

They could not trade for or sign a player active in the NHL. As soon as NHL teams seasons ended (either because they didn't make the playoffs or were eliminated), they could then trade for NHL players under contract.

I suspect you'll see something similiar for the Kraken.

they don't have multiple 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks in the upcoming drafts, yet.

They could sign some Europe players and loan thrm back to theireuto teams for year 1.

After March 1 2021 thry can sign CHL and college pkayers for the 21/22 season

How I woukd have done the expansion of vegas and Seattle..

Just using Seattle 21-22 start as a timeline
Draft 2019 they get 8 picks
Draft 2020 they get 8 picks
Draft 2021 they get 14 picks (2 in each round mid round )
Draft 2022 they get 14 picks (2 in each round end round )

Between the two expansion teams and NHL team would lose 1 roster player ( players past an ELC) and 2 prospects/ELC players. Seattle would draft 15 nhl plAyers and 30 prospects or ELCs to stock farm team.

Why should they get picks in drafts they have nothing to do with? And who decides what draft picks they get?
