Damn, by that logic guys like Vanek and Tarasenko should have been out of the league years ago.

Hell, Yzerman was one of the WORST players defensively for the first 10+ years of his career.

Yzerman was never a terrible defensive player, anybody suggesting that doesn't remember him.

He evolved into a Selke winner, but he was tasked with checking Gretzky and the big boy lines clear back to the mid-to-late 80's. He would gamble for offense at times but he was still above average defensively even before the Bowman lore starts in his career.

Indeed. Mlotek had a pretty rough take on Silk.

As everybody already pointed out, this is flat out wrong. Yzerman was excellent defensively. He just had to gamble a lot more to provide (the only) offense the 80s Wings had.

With the assumption that Athanasiou and Ferris will be looking for a bridge deal (seems likely given the track record) and the fact that Domi just signed for 2 years @ $3.15M AAV, what is your best guess for how AA's contract will play out in the end?

For comparison purposes, in 50 more games, Domi has roughly 60 more points than AA. They are about half a year apart age wise.

Domi also was at top 15 pick, and has had two seasons producing 40+ points. Add to that it was after a trade, there’s a lot of factors here that means he would be entitled to significantly more money than AA. I’d be shocked and angered if he got more than 2 years at 2.5 pet year. I’d be happiest with him getting a 2x2, given he’s never shown much at the NHL level consistently.
