The blackhawks happened (look at the odd man rushes in game 7 and keith kane toews saad manufacturing prime chances when on ice together). And unsustainable happened. The ducks d corps also happened.

Andersen was fine.

Those expecting him to maintain something ludicrous like a .950-.970 SV% were bound to be disappointed. He exited the series with a .930, which is a playoff SV% a ton of teams would KILL for.

Crawford and the team in front of him were just a little bit better than Andersen and the team in front of him. That hardly makes him a disaster or a liability. It just makes him second best in a hotly contested WCF.

There are plenty of goalies with far worse epitaphs than that.

Andersen had a .901 (210/233) in the series, and ranged somewhere between an .808 and an .875 in each of his last four games. Great in the first 3 games though, but the performance in net was certainly not one that warranted a series victory.

Nothing happened. The Ducks took a chance that he could be ready to lead the team to the Stanley Cup and it didn't work out. It's to bad because the Ducks could have won the series with adequate goaltending and had a good chance of winning the cup. The first two rounds he wasn't tested and was exposed against a good team to answer your question op. It's pretty straight forward.

He met a better team. It has happened to many a good goalie. Quick, Rinne, Rask, Howard....the list goes on.

His rebound control is horrible and he simply could not make the big stop for the Ducks. He really **** the bed the past 4 games. This was his shot to solidify himself as a true #1 and he didn't do it. Gibson is clearly the future.

Gibson's rebound control is a lot worse. Next year will be quite interesting for the ducks.

You can blame him for a couple of goals, but the last 8 periods of regulation hockey from the Ducks were pathetic. All the giveaways were his fault? and the turnovers? and the "wear them down" strategy? clearing the zone? etc. He's a good, better-than-average goalie that got crushed by a dynasty offense.

I was never totally sold on him, at least at this point in his career, but what a disappointing finish for him. After 2 and a half really solid series for the Ducks goalie, he's allowed 4+ goals in four straight games -- the most important games of the Ducks' season. What's happened? Can he rebound? Ultimately, can the Ducks have success with him as their starter, or will Gibson take his place?

He's not good enough. The Ducks still have issues in net, and they're not getting there until those issues are resolved.
