Speculation: What would it take for NJ to get Quinn?

Not going to read 11 pages but isn't Quinn an RFA this year? Theoretically, couldn't the devils just overpay the hell out of him now?

I can't really see this happening anytime soon unless Quinn forces the Canucks hand, especially since Luke is almost certainly going to play a year or two of collegiate hockey before joining our roster anyway. I'm sure we'd be at the front of the queue if Quinn does ever want out of Vancouver though.

We certainly have the assets to construct a package for him, especially since Ty Smith would make sense as a young skilled LHD replacement going back to Vancouver in return. I'm sure some combination of a 2022 1st round pick, a top prospect like Mercer & Holtz and/or a young roster player like Bratt or Zacha in addition to Smith would at least get the conversation started.

But I wouldn't be that worried if I were a Vancouver fan, I just don't get the sense this is something that will happen anytime soon (it's not like Marc Staal went out of his way to play with Eric & Jordan). Plus at least if it were to happen we've got a decent selection of desirable young assets that the Canucks would be well within their rights to demand for him.

Something like Smith + 2022 1st/Mercer/Holtz + Zacha/Bratt.

Out of curiosity... Let's say the Hughes' brothers main priority is to all play together... Why would they choose NJ? Because 2 of them play there? Seems like a great way to lose your leverage when negotiating a new deal.

Maybe they prefer California or Florida instead.

Players value winning more than anything else - I would venture to guess.

So if Van still sucks ass by the time Quinn's bridge deal is ending and NJ is a powerhouse and NJ also needs a top pairing PP specialist on top of the CAP to fit an 8M dollar d-man then yeah I could see it happening....

Oh and also all cities have beautiful areas to enjoy, especially for athlete millionaires; that being said, there just simply is not a lot of comparables of nature's beauty when it comes to Vancouver. It's literally world renowned for it. I'm definitely not saying New Jersey is ugly it honestly sounds awesome.

The obsession of both teams fans are ridiculous, Quinn isn’t going to NJ any time soon, Jack and Luke aren’t going to Vancouver any time soon.
Brothers are allowed to play in the NHL and be on different teams
Agreed. I'd like to say the thread has gone off the rails but it was never on the rails.

Not eligible for an offersheet yet which is why I think the Canucks will look for something around the Heiskanen deal.

How about this as a basis:

To VAN:
-Ty Smith
-Nico Hischier @50%
-Pick(s) - thinking 2022 + 2023 1sts

To NJD:
-Quinn Hughes
-Brock Boeser
-Braden Holtby
-Picks (less than NJD, say 2023 2nd)

NJD get likely the two best players in the deal and upgrade with a veteran backup, the Canucks get cap space and futures without fully tanking.

if the main priority is playing together, while they are still good at hockey, why complicate things with a preferred destination? either all three have to be free agent and choose the same team, which also needs to have cap space for them. or their team of choice needs to construct 1 to 3 trades to acquire all of them. luke probably won't be offer sheet eligible in the four off-seasons.

1) it's a big IF
2) it's also IFFY, that any team cares about reuniting them
3) still new jersey would have the easiest (not easy at all) path to make it happen

i don't know, if this plays any role for young athlets at all. during the season they have no time to enjoy it anyway. it's all about hockey.

and in the off-season the ones without family and kids are free to spend their time, where they wish. even for off-season training most athlets choose their location based on the trainers.

Well after that interview with the Hughes trio it's completely blatant they want Quinn to be a devil & that he would be more then happy to come over to play with his brothers. Who has more leverage? Quinn wants out it's obvious.

What will it take ? A big offer sheet .

Luke Hughes is under contract the longest and that's in new Jersey. He'll be the hardest one to pull out, assuming he's any good. Quinn obviously has a long way to go to bring a ufa. However as players approach ufa status, if they make it clear they won't re-sign beyond their rfa years, teams will trade them before that happens. So in 3 years if Quinn really wants out, he can push for that by refusing to sign into his ufa years.

Not saying that would happen, but that's the scenario that round lead to all three in new Jersey. If they want to go to Vancouver or any other team, it means waiting longer for Luke to get close to ufa years.

Again, I'm not an expert but any stretch but could Luke just go to college and never sign with the devils? Then he'd be a free agent in 4 years and be free to go anywhere

They could just spend the off season together. Funny cuz on the Jets board someone said can't wait for the topic on the main boards to pop up about Quinn Hughes. He said it sarcastically tho but here we are. Habs fan start this cuz only they are that delusional
