It's considered bad taste and poor sportsmanship to point this out. But yes, obviously, with them Canada probably wouldn't have lost a game.

Please fellow Canadians let's not do this again after another silver medal. The Canadian team as assembled proved for 40 minutes that they were more than capable of winning gold, and a spirited Russian third period actually won the gold. Why not give credit where it is owed?

Agreed, not only to the Russians but give credit to the Canadians who went and won silver and not just discard them off hand.

If Canada could send their true "A" squad to this tournament every year, we'd probably never lose a game.

But that's not the case. So you live with the result.

Silver is a good result, and I am proud of the boys, despite the collapse. The guys we had did their best, but didn't have the experience to handle the adversity. That's too bad, but it's not worth hating them for. The Russians earned the win.

The better TEAM won. Of course Canada would have won with all those guys but they can only do their best with what's available to them and having all our best young players in the NHL makes the tournament much more exciting. Grand Forks every year would just get boring.

In reality no we would not lose because don't forget Matt Duchene. But I won't use that as an excuse. We made some poor selections and STILL had the CHL to choose from. Besides, there are classic examples of when we won the Silver or even Bronze and had ample junior aged players in the NHL. This year was no different.

1999 - Thornton, Marleau, Lecavalier, Brewer, Malhotra
2000 - Lecavalier, Gagne, Fisher, Regehr
2003 - Spezza, Bouwmeester, Nash, Weiss, Blackburn

In the last 20 years we've won gold 5 straight times twice with the same issues of the NHL having some of our guys. You deal with it but we still have a pool of players to choose from that every other country would envy. No reason to make an excuse
