You guys have it kind of wrong. Canes will lose the next game, and then go full sell mode. We'll all be shocked when Francis somehow trades Derek Ryan for a 2nd round pick and Lee Stempniak for a semi decent prospect. One thing Ron Francis is good at is selling off his UFA assets. We'll then go into the 2018 draft with our 12th overall pick and extra 2nd rounder thinking we might go out and acquire a top 6 forward with the picks. We patiently wait on draft day, only to draft another Finnish dude in the 2nd with our extra 2nd. Free agency comes and hope we sign JT, instead our big deal of the day is we bring back Derek Ryan & we re sign Klas Dahlback . Then all off season long there's 1 good free agent left that we all want and we pray he comes here only for him to sign with another team in the Metro. We seek out what's left of the pile in desperation and might sign another Josh Jooris to fill the holes. Training camp comes around and then the front office well then hype up Necas to us as our lord and savior of this team. But again 2019 is another year in mediocracy, but this time 2019 trade deadline is really interesting as we sell off Justin Williams & Jeff Skinner as rentals.

I like Brassard but I’m not convinced he’s a long term answer.

Brassard is just a longer term rental to this team. He's not a real #1C, but he is a solid playmaker who can put the puck in the net. And he does have size and doesn't play small. He's a guy who will be 31 on September but who has only put up 1 20 goal season and is currently playing at a pace for about 51 points (but will likely only get in the 40s). I'd say he'd be an okay "get", somebody who could mentor young Necas.

On a lighter note, Canes fans everywhere when thinking of GMRF around TDL:

That's because he actually believes they're better than they are. Easy to sell when you believe in the product.

I have no source for anything I just said. Just seems legit.

Yeah, that ownership situation in Ottawa is brutal.

How are they going to afford Duchene then S1C2? Or do you think they'll find a way to offload some salary between now and then. In your view, are they really looking to move Karlsson and Hoffman? Or is that just media trying to drum up interest?
Well they have to spend SOMEWHERE right (re. Duchene)? Duchene I’m not worried about. He’s the 1C next year and he’s signed through the end of next year. Any decision on him can be made a full year from now, when we have more information. Thus far he’s been a good addition...we gave up a lot, but he’s the best player in the deal and you know what they say about that.

Re. Karlsson - no, I don’t think they’re moving him, short of a massive Lindros-like deal. It’s all contingent on the owner, however, and I know that he and EK had some words in a meeting about a month and a half ago. EK loves Ottawa. Just finished a very long search for a house with his Ottawa’s born and raised wife. I think he stays unless the owner dictates otherwise...

Re. Hoffman - I think it’s possible, but much less so than a month ago. The chemistry between him and Duchene is undeniable. I think the SENS are in for a small retool, nothing more. Trading Smith and maybe Brassard (among the notable players) and that's it. Unload some 4th liners, sure. Maybe Wideman, but hopefully not.

It isn't as if Faulk adds any modicum of physicality. The main difference between Faulk and Karlsson is that sometimes Karlsson's offense can actually overcome how bad he is defensively. Can't say that has ever been true of Faulk by both the eye and stat tests.

Faulk's past 4 seasons: -19, -22, -18, -19

Always the worst +/- for D on the team by a mile.

I’ve seen a golden eagle throw a mountain goat off a cliff to eat it. Pretty legit intelligence for a bird.

Yes. The #badnwagon draft this spring will be for good. Dundon brings in new guys by the Entry Draft.

Some go-getters who won't allow the prospect threads be started by that one guy.
Its funny, because I know more than a few STM who are so b-hurt about the $40 lower level tickets and games where the 300 level was closed off that they are swearing off season tickets forever and are openly questioning whether they want to be fans of the team anymore.

Indefinitely is a very long time. Surely there's be a cycle where we'd suck too.

I get the joke, and even considered chuckling, but you just hit on one of my pet peeves. Indefinitely is *not* a very long time. As a matter of fact, indefinitely could be a very, very short time. It only means we don't know how long. A player who takes a hit to the head in the first period and leaves to get checked out is out "indefinitely." Once it's determined he doesn't have a concussion, he's back for the second period. Or in this particular instance, I use it to mean "until somebody does something to change it." Francis could trade for Tavares and sign him to an 8-year contract, but I'm not holding my breath.

I can honestly say I don't know any of those people. I'm not disrespecting their opinion (although I disagree with it), I just haven't heard anybody outside of some Twitterati being super vocal.

I’m sure there are... some people like that. “More than a few” is something I haven’t seen evidence of.

“I was a Canes season ticket holder for 10 years, but I just can’t be a fan now”. Would be strange to hear.
