Don't see that happening, but easily.
Especially when Phoenix plans on competing soon. Don't laugh, who thought the Avs would be where they are after last year? Raanta holds way more value to them than a garbage goaltender (regardless of salary retention) and a 2nd. We're looking at a trade like what it took Chicago to get rid of Bickell to get rid of Darling, and Bickell wasn't nearly as bad/useless as Darling is now (since Bickell could be used as a 4th liner, whereas Darling probably isn't even a NHL backup at this point).

Or draft Veini Vehviläinen with our 2nd, immediately sign him to an ELC and bury Darling in the AHL for the duration of the kids contract.

I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on him but no way does he go in the second I don’t think. He hasn’t improved THAT much on past seasons which weren’t enough to get him drafted.

Every year we trade guys that we think are worthless, and every year they bring back picks. Every year.

Us fans may get passing grades in Organizational Hockey 101, but valuing our own TDL assets is the test we fail year after year.

Everybody forgets that 3rd lines in the NHL have a bunch of guys struggling to hit 25 points by the end of the season.

I said it before, but Mrazek's stat line the last couple years isn't much better than Darling. He's been on a bad team, but many think this team makes goalies look bad or worse. Maybe he'd magically be the guy that is like Cam and does okay occasionally in this system. Or maybe he'd continue to be no good here. I'm fine with not making that move. Even if he plays well in Philly, I don't see him being that much of a difference maker here.

He had a .901 sv% last year, which I'd take over Darling's .891 sv%. This year Mrazek is a .910 sv% on an awful defensive team, a big improvement again over Darling's year. I'm certain Mrazek could come here and be better than Darling has played. Not saying he's the answer to our starting goalie woes, but he'd be an improvement, and does have some potential still left.

If you think the guy with mediocre (at best) numbers will come here and get better when even guys with solid numbers come here and blow (like Darling ya know), good on you. I still think we need to get over pining for mediocre or worse goalies just because our goalies have been so bad in recent years. I don't see how Mrazek's a recipe for anything more than the same. Obviously some here wanted Mrazek, and that's fine. I have no problem passing.

Honestly we’re at the point where it kind of makes sense to just churn through goalies as fast as possible, until someone manages to look OK.

Maybe. But mediocre guys that are pretty much a guarantee to not be qualified don't do it for me.

Mrazek had a stint where he was the starting goalie and played 83 games over 2 seasons at a .920 sv% . He's shown he can be good when he doesn't have a dumpster fire of a team in front of him like he does now. And like Tarheel said, we gotta just start churning through goalies until one clicks. We can't go a whole season praying that Darling works, and we can't afford to go through that same process all over again next season. Let's get a step ahead in the process and bring a new guy in now to trial.

Mrazek was a good get. Could turn it around like Hellebyuck has this year and become a top-10 starter.

Hard not to feel a little jelly. Of f***ing course the Canes need a goalie upgrade. Mrazek will be the best UFA on the market. The cost was a mid round pick or two to see if he would work.
