What trades turned out to be very lopsided for one of the teams?

Alot of trades always happen that involve prospects at the time who arent really well known. Or involve young guys that are under achieving and just need a change of scenery. Or even picks that turn into a stud down the road.

What are some trades that have happened that when the dust settled and prospects become NHL players, ended up being lopsided in favor of one of the teams?

Obviously first one that came to mind first was Lindros to Philly

But another one from more recent is....

St Louis Blues trades David Rundblad to Ottawa for 16th overall pick during the 2010 draft. St Louis then drafts Vladimir Tarasenko

What are others?

I would even throw in another Rundblad trade as well. Turris for Rundblad has seemed like highway robbery for Ottawa

The Sharp for scrubs trade was pretty lopsided.

Not exactly a prospect, but still in the beginning of the career.

Habs traded Craig Rivet to Sharks for Josh Gorges and their 1st round pick

1st round pick turned out to be Max Pacioretty.

Oh, and McDonagh to Rangers.

In before Forsberg for Erat

Hossa's trade to the Pens was also extremely lopsided. Neal and Niskanen for Goligoski was somewhat, even though Goligoski is still a good player.

Mike Wilson to Florida Panthers for Rhett Warrener and a 5th rounder... with that 5th round pick Buffalo chose Ryan Miller

this one isn't one that is lopsided, but rather would have been withouth the conditional pick.

February 10th, 2007
Flames trade Andrew Ference and Chuck Kobasew to the Bruins for Brad Stuart, Wayne Primeau and a conditional 4th (if Stuart doesn't re-sign)

After the Flames are ousted in round 1 it looks like a pretty lopsided deal as Ference was a key member of their cup winning team. However that conditional 4th turned out to be TJ Brodie who IMO is now better than Ference ever was.

the Flyers essentially got Hartnell, Timonen, Parent and Upshall for 14 games of Forsberg once.

Nashville trades their 2008 1st(15th overall) to Ottawa for their 2008 1st(18th) and a 2009 3rd rounder

Ottawa then drafts Erik Karlsson

Nashville gets Chet Pickard(18th overall) and Taylor Beck(3rd rounder)

Jeff Carter to Columbus for Voracek, 1st(Coutourier), 3rd(Cousins)

Carter has last laugh though seeing he has 2 stanley cup rings with LA... But brutal trade for the Columbus Bluejackets none the less, great one for Philly

Jury's still a bit out, but Kyle Quincey for the 1st round pick that would turn into Andrei Vasilevskiy.

Klein for Del Zotto is starting to look pretty grim.

But when you trade down its generally under the assumption that your guy (in this case Pickard) will still be there a few spots later, so you get a little something for moving down and get your pick anyway. It's very likely that the Preds take PIckard at 15th anyway if the trade never goes down.

Still a bad idea, but I wouldn't classify it as a bad trade. More so a bad pick.

Habs traded Craig Rivet to the Sharks for Josh Gorges and Max Pacioretty (1st round pick).

Of course the Habs then traded for Gomez...

They still made the EC semi-finals the season after this trade with Voracek and Coots being a big part of the team. (Leafs still couldnt manage to even get into the playoffs :naughty:). Wouldnt call that a 5 year setback just because of this trade.

There have been other trades, signings and incidents who caused the downfall of the Flyers in 2014.

I believe the suggestion is that Columbus was set back 5 years in this deal, not the Flyers.

The Iron Throne
Jonathan Bernier for Ben Scrivens, Matt Frattin and a 2nd round pick

Bernier has been a bonafide #1 for the Leafs, Scrivens played 19 games and got traded for a 3rd round pick, Frattin couldn't crack the roster and a 2nd round pick is a 2nd round pick.

I don't doubt that Dean Lombardi knew how good Bernier was too, such is the market for unproven goalies though I guess.

Back in 2007 us Habs fans were pleasantly surprised we got a first rounder for Craig Rivet. Many of us did not know Josh Gorges and though he would be an AHLer for life. But we didn't really care because we had that 1st round pick.

Rivet played 91 games with the Sharks... Josh Gorges ended up playing 464 games with the Habs.

But the best part is that the 1st round pick turned into the best forward we've drafted in a long time in Max Pacioretty. He is just hitting his prime and there is a good chance he's our next captain.
