What more does Datsyuk need to do before he is a HoF Lock?

Thornton has been outplayed by Dats every series they've matched up. It's not Datsyuk's fault SJ was deeper both years, and their depth destroyed our depth.

so thorntons 14 points in 12 games has nothing to do with the sharks knocking the wings out? of those 14 points thornton was in on by either an assist or the goal, 4 game winners (1 being a primary assist on the series clincher).

Iginla will most likely never put up a 100P season, but i'd consider him a lock.

His Art Ross and Richard trophies happened to come in a year when nobody else had more than 90 points or 41 goals. That season was what made him a lock -- the hardware, not the numbers.

Also, Iginla is a great captain and the greatest black player ever. That willy carry a lot of weight in HHOF voting.

Another Selke plus any of 1 Hart, 1 Art Ross or 1 Conn Smythe should do the trick.

He gets near a thousand points, with cups, and multiple Selkes (people are vastly underrating this, how many cup-winning PPGish players have a Selke, let alone three consecutive? It's a very select group.), he's in. He doesn't need a Hart, Art Ross, or a 100 point season (I mean, he's got two 97 point seasons, c'mon now with arbitrary numbers), etc. He's already got enough hardware. All he needs is a few more good-to-great seasons and he'll have the numbers. I would expect at least three more 70 point seasons out of him, that puts him at nearly 900 points right there.

I won't call him a lock, but he's more than likely in.

He's been a top 5 player, at the very least, for 4 straight years now. Ron Francis, was not for 1 single year, a top 15 player in the league. Don't show me the years he played in Pittsburgh with Lemieux/Jagr, or his Carolina season where he finished 9th in points. There has literally always been atleast 15 better players than him in the NHL in any given year. Head to head in an actual hockey game Datsyuk doesn't give up much to anyone when it comes to simply winning, and that includes Crosby/Ovechkin.

Unless Datsyuk wins an Art Ross/Hart or a Conn Smythe or explodes for a few consecutive 90-100 point seasons, I doubt he'll ever be a "lock". If guys like Lindros and Bure, two of the most dominant forwards of the 90s, are having trouble getting in, Datsyuk may also struggle to earn his way on to the ballot. He's only ever had two elite offensive seasons, where he's finished at least top 15 in NHL scoring, and has never been consistently ranked as a top 5 player in the league. Only recently have people considered him second only Crosby (which I still think is wrong, as Ovechkin and Malkin are two of the most gifted players I've seen in the last few years). Also, his window to win a few more cups is shrinking, as Lidstrom is nearing retirement, Rafalski is gone, and he himself is already 33.

He'll be close but it's hard to know for sure.

Datsyuk was a late bloomer, but since the lockout I would consider a top-5 forward. What he lacks in offensive production, he makes up for in defensive play (hence the 3 Selkes). A few more years at this level and he should make it.
