What is the reason KHL starts so early?

It starts several weeks before all the other big leagues in Europe. Why is that?

Last year they added a couple of games to make it 60 games per season, but that is not the entire explanation, since they've started early every season since 2008.

In order to accomodate the longer regular season schedule and still have the national team players available for the World Championships, they start the season in August.

Yeah, because Russians feels it's extremely important for the to prepare for extremely important WC so they could win something sometimes.

I dont get it, is it a nationalism thing? Cause literally none of the Top-6 nations gives as much of a **** as Russia about WC and are usually sending their B or C teams, if you ask me - Olympics is really where its at.

The regular season has been 60 games for like 2 seasons now. Before that it was 52 and 56 games. So on the same level as Sweden and Finland, and all other European Leagues. The KHL starts one month earlier than the Swedish and Finnish league. And the seasons ends 2-3 weeks earlier. And have always done. There seem to be no reasonable explanation. Does it something to do with the Football season?

For instance, DEL lasted until 22nd april last season. Swiss league 12th april. KHL ended on 19th of april.

Gagarin Cup has one more series than all the other European leagues, but that doesn't explain it either.

Perhaps it's because of the vast travel distances and longer physical recovery from jet lag etc?

I would say that's probably part of it. You need some days of recovery after travelling from Bratislava to Vladivostok or Beijing.
