That is the comparison I hear all the time as well.
He's generational and the next Bobby Orr tho (according to others)
He was a turnover machine and they led to goals....very bad night at MSG
Yea, that's gonna happen. For his own professional well-being he's going to need to learn very fast in the NHL which some say will happen this season
Embellishing just a bit...?
No, go to his prospects thread
Only time I’m seeing the word generational is people posting a quote from his teammate about his skating.
You see a turnover machine, but I see an elite playmaking talent. He's making plays for everyone. It's all about the framing.
Playmaking talent who cost his team the game last night...and it wasn’t the first time this season
He lost his team the game, sure, but he also won the game for the other team. He's contributing in ways other players wouldn't even dare.
I have a gut feeling that you are right, unfortunately.
Small frame (strong gust of wind would blow him over), with incredible hands, and game changing ability.
A natural goal scorer who will be the face of whichever franchise he ends up with
Kane / Gadreau style player, but if he can stick at center that makes him as valuable as guys like Stamkos and Tavares in my mind. The misnomer on Hughes is that he isn’t a good defensive player. Kid is incredibly smart in both zones, and busts his ass to stay responsible. If he fills out just a little bit - plays in the nhl around 175-185 - I think he could be a top 10 center in his prime.
He reminds me of a young Jack Hughes.
Instead of asking for the opinion of others just GO and see him with the NTDP...He has been a real treat to watch... Yes he is not BIG, but WOW can he skate, stick handle, pass, and the puck seems to just find him...
AGAIN... if you are anywhere in the greater Detroit area, please check him out in person... there are $5.00 Fridays, and lots of seats available.... He is currently on the U-18 team
USA Hockey National Team Development Program
Similar to Barzal imo.
He’s not a top tier phenom #1 pick, and probably not even an elite one (Stamkos, Tavares), but I do expect him to be a solid #1 center.
Did Hughes get hurt during the WJC? Or was he injured beforehand?
And players like him usually plays till late thirties
He got injured during the WJC, most likely from the two hits in the corner because it was called, if I'm not mistaken, a shoulder injury. He is also not playing in the Five Nations tournament.
Not sure if it's smart to rush him into the NHL right away, even if he skates better than McDavid
Why is this still going? We have no chance at getting him none.
If the season ended today we'd have exactly 8.5% chance to get him. 8.5%
There’s also a small chance Kakko goes first. EXPECTING either or is premature, but there is a very real chance, one that certainly justifies cautious hope
Probably more of a Clay Keller than a Patrick Kane. Or maybe in between.
In any sense, have to assume his upside is 1PPG or better some seasons.
I agree with a ppg, I think he'll leave everyone wanting more at ES relative to how he's hyped up higher than Olympus Mons but he's going to help whoever's PP unit convert a ton more opportunities right away.
Why not just go watch a couple of NTDP games and make up your own mind... from what I've seen he is WAY better than Keller... WAY better...
