What is it about November? Why is it this team slumps year in and year out in November? We've seen it even before Capuano, so its not solely him. Is it lack of conditioning? Training? Motivation? I just can't make sense as to why November always seems to be a crap month.

Individual skill can trump solid team work in the first month of the season before teams get going. Kinda why I think Grabner started so strong this season. His individual speed was a wrecking ball before teams started to solidify there team play.
Our team play sucks, especially on D.

What is it about November?
What is it about the start to games?
What is it about the 3rd period?
What is it about the succeeding 3 minutes after every goal we score?

Damned if I know.

Lol...so true

Ever since I started watching the isles they've been horribad at closing out games. They don't possess that killer instinct to just put the nail in the coffin, unless it's their own coffin lol

I'm pretty sure it is an insidious bit of neurolinguistic programming (NLP) - the team is stuck somehow associating NOvember with NO - as in NO wins, NO heart, NO hustle, NO correcting repeated mistakes, etc.

Unfortunately it does not work for goaltenders, where NO goals would be helpful - curious....

Next year, tear up all references to November on the calendar and change it to YESvember

Or, upgrade to some NHL caliber defensemen, hire a real NHL coach and reward the guys who play their hearts out with more opportunities, bench or jettison the rest.

One of those should work.

Lack of leadership
Lack of accountability
Lack of trust in each other
Lack of confidence

These result is the expectation to fail.

For some reason this is lost in the offseason and takes a couple months to get it back. And not because of a lack in talent.

Again, they expect to lose. You can "battle hard" all you want, but if that thought is even at the farthest point in the back of your mind, bad things are going to happen. That mentality thrives in this environment. Has for a while.

Lack of depth, lack of talent. In October our weaknesses are exposed. In November they are exploited.

Halloween candy makes them fattys and they have to use Nov to work it off. OR

It's really a Movember curse.

Bad Novembers are fresh on our minds mainly because the last three Novembers the Isles have played have been bad. But previous to that, 6 out of the 8 previous Novembers had the Isles at or above .500.

Previous Novembers:
2001-02 - 6-5-3-1
2002-03 - 5-7-2-0
2003-04 - 5-8-0-0
2005-06 - 7-6-1
2006-07 - 7-5-1
2007-08 - 8-5-1
2008-09 - 8-6-1
2009-10 - 6-6-2
2010-11 - 1-7-3
2011-12 - 4-7-2
2013-14 - 4-10-1

Remember, Gordon was fired 11/15/2010 and Cappy took over. Cappy has now been head coach for two and a half of the most recent crappy Novembers.

the good news is that now November is over and we still aren't too far back in the standings (6 games if we win tonight, which is ironically not too bad)

Now that December starts, hopefully Isles stop playing like an AHL team and start making a push, and hopefully Visnovsky and Strait return soon before we fall too far back of contention
