Apart from Kopitar, which ok they looked over, but so did other teams. I don't see too many stars picked directly after when the sharks took their 1st round pick in the past 10 years?

Well, you could do that for any team. But calling Kopitar a future bust so confidently is alarming.

#1 my purpose was not to make the Sharks drafting look like crap. Because truth be told they draft better than the majority of the league period end of story. You are merely putting words in my mouth and for that you should be ashamed.

Really? He should be ashamed?

When you said this, this was all I could think of:

Oh yeah no doubt, it was a very bad call. My point more was that even if we took those "higher potential" picks in the past ten years, I don't see where we end up better off today as a 1st line star didn't really come along soon after our pick.

To be fair we have no idea how Kopitar would've turned out if we drafted him. For all we know he could've fallen in love with someone from San Francisco and quit hockey to pursue a career in performance art or something.

Though he probably would've been pretty awesome in teal. Moreso than partyguchi.

From TSN chart. Sharks, being in the upper right, are one of the successful teams. (And given position in round they're nominally drafting at, even better "return".)

For my money, I think that when the Sharks use a pick, they are one of the top-5 teams in the league. When it comes to pick management, they might be one of the worst teams in the league. In terms of getting value for their picks and prospects in non-draft-related transactions, they are middle of the pack.

My other issue is that when you are a team, who, by virtue of policy is the worst team in the league when it comes to signing free agents, being a top-5 drafting team isn't enough. Hopefully, that has changed going forwards.
