What happened to Laine’s goal-scoring?

On pace for 30 goals which is really solid but this is from a guy who potted 44 goals in his sophomore season and was touted to take away the title of best goal-scorer from Ovechkin. There was even a rather long thread about him potentially scoring 60 goals.

Has he turned into more of a playmaker? Something with his linemates?

Wow, what a terrific audience.

Seems to have fallen into a major slump shooting wise. Though playing with Scheif and Connor now and both of them are on pace for their best goalscoring seasons. I wouldnt even say hes become a better playmaker he just seems to be the guy making the passes more than getting them this year.

No idea TBH - it's pretty weird
He's playing well though, so maybe he's just in a slump? You'd think he should be putting more in.

Back problems.

His slap shot/one timer is not what is used to be.

Cant say I'm surprised, I saw this coming years ago and never bought into his 70g 150pt season predictions like some. His attitude is still poor and entitled, watching Connor show him how it's done may bring some humility but I wouldnt count on it.

His play is better than ever, even defensively despite the team having an atrocious defense.

The biggest problem this year, ironically, is his PP scoring.

My problem with this is that not every player is supposed to be coached into becoming an all-around forward. Having a sniping specialist is so useful.

He's on pace for 5 power play goals. 2 years ago he scored 20 in one season.

Last year his ES scoring went down, but this year it's back to the same type of pace it was couple years ago (except with more assists).

In other words, he'd be a 40 goalscorer again this year if the PP was clicking. But it's not. Not only does it take away potential goals, but you also miss out on the extra confidence boost in general.

Obviously, not having a proper PP QB hurts (Buff). But his shot also seems to be off target a lot. They have to fix that. There's no reason not to score goals with that type of shot on the PP.

Defenders have realized they can take away his shot since he's an Ovechkin lite who just stands still and one-timers from the same/similar position most of the time? Just guessing.

He's still playing really well. He's on pace for 74 points. It seems like his all-around game has gone up while his goal scoring has gone down.
