So yes sire and mademoiselle. What does y'all think of the all canadian division next season they talkin bout no? We would play a whole lot of games versus only canadien teams. Interesting. Tsn is all over it. NHL looking at temporary realignment, short-term hubs for next season - TSN.ca

They talkin bout that and the whole short term hubs there also sire. What do the legendary toronto maple leafs fans think? Might be some hard games because think about the canadiens and ottawa rivalry. And the edm, calgary etc vanucks ones. Fighting and hitting no? Now we have the thugs also, with our current talent and young speedy gonzalez ones.

I’m excited to see more games against the Western teams, but it’s going to suck if we have a lot more late games, which I’m assuming we would.

I think it will be a ton of fun competing against just the Canadian teams next year.

This is our record last year against just the Canadian teams.

Paced for 105 points. Two of the losses were with Hutch in net, one he got pulled.

Senators 6 of 6 available points
Canadiens 2 of 6 available points. OUCH
Canucks 4 of 4 points
Flames 1 of 4 points OUCH
Jets 3 of 4 points
Oilers 2 of 4 points.

It would make for a change of pace in retaining only Montreal and Ottawa as divisional rivals. We also don't typically get to play the four "incoming" teams as much with them currently being in the Western Conference. The repetitiveness of it all would depend on how many games the season would be comprised of. Of course, I'll always take any season over none at all. How the playoff picture eventually shakes out is a point of interest as well. I'm obviously looking too far ahead with that!

Taking a look at 2019/20 and how the Canadian teams did against each other.

Montreal - 16 games, 24 points - pace for 123 points
Winnipeg 12 games, 18 points - pace for 123 points
Toronto - 14 games, 18 points - pace for 105 points
Calgary - 15 games, 18 points - pace for 98 points
Edmonton - 16 games, 16 points - pace for 82 points
Ottawa- 14 games, 11 points - pace for 64 points
Vancouver 15 games, 10 points - pace for 55 points

Smallish sample, given the limited number of games, but still interesting.

I’d love it. Would be great for rivalries, and a cool/fresh change.

Would be a very competitive division - only one legit bad team (Ottawa), everyone else could be in the playoff race. We’d lose some punching bags (Detroit, and arguably Buffalo, though they may be turning it around), but we’d ALSO lose Boston and Tampa, which would be great. We’d go from the #3 team in the division to IMO #1.

Knowing that its going to be a one off thing, I'm excited for it.

Could help actually form some real rivalries rather than the pretend ones that fans pretend exist.

And keeps the Leafs away from Tampa

It'll be pretty boring if the entire season is only against the same 6 opponents.

I do like the prospect of a potentially shorter season though. 50 games makes each game more important than in an 82 game season.

If you're not counting points gained from going OT, TOR is .500 against Canadian teams no?

We have to be a lot better.

I’m looking forward to it. Perfect scenario for this team to take the next step forward. If we won the division there could be a suicide watch for some of the other teams fans. They really are that obsessed by us.

It will be interesting.
All 7 teams are much different than last year and I really would not take last year records as any indications.
Like I always said, there is no such thing as good or bad matchups if you just win.

Going to be a bit annoying for air-times for most. I don't really have issues staying up til 1am watching games, but I know it impacts a lot of people especially kids, and I know the West coast will be pissed about the likely lean towards airing games in our favor (meaning early starts for them). Division wise, it's way easier than the Atlantic, and I'll be glad to have Hockey, and given the current spikes across Canada and in Toronto, this seems like the best. I'm sure certain players are going to be pissed about the potential tax implications.

The travel would suck (assuming they don't do the mini bubble thing), but it would be funny to have so many extra home games (Ottawa). I mean, doesn't everyone love having a main home and a cottage?

I never even thought about the tax subject. Lol. But that’s a great point.

One upside is we don't have to watch Toronto Florida games and pretend like we're watching a division rivalry game.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Matthews declares his primary residence as his place in Arizona, and due to all the travel throughout the season, they are in the States enough they can viably make that claim. A full Canadian season would make that very difficult to get by the CRA. Pretty sure Phil's primary residence when he was here was in Florida.

He absolutely does. As long as he spends, I believe, =>183 days per year in the US he can claim his taxes in AZ.

As for the thread, I think we're probably the greatest lock to make the playoffs in an all-Canadian division, but I hope it's a short (48 game) season. Playing the same six teams more than eight times would be grating. Whichever teams finish 5th & 6th, or god forbid, 7th behind Ottawa will be absolutely raked over the coals by the fans and media. It could get some long-serving coaches and/or managers fired if teams cave for the lynch mob.
