Alice in Chains- Dirt

Failure- Fantastic Planet

Good list..
Dirt is in my decade' Top Ten. I don't think Fantastic Planet makes my list, but Failure's Magnified would..
Thru the mid 9os, I kept expecting Failure to have a break-out single, or album, but they never really did.. they were one of the best (& most underappreciated) rock bands of that era..

Yeah I certainly agree with them being one of the most underappreciated bands of that era. I saw them live a couple times and they put on a fanstastic show. Another album I almost put on the list from another greatly underappreciated band is Freak Show by Silverchair. Check that out if you haven't given it a listen yet.

Cool. I never saw Failure in concert. But I did see Edwards' post-Failure group Autolux. It was early 2ooos, at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Don't think they had even released a debut album yet..

I have to plead some ignorance on Silverchair. I really only remember their one huge single. I should give them a comprehensive listen. (Peace)

Teenage Fanclub -- Grand Prix (at the time, my choice was Thirteen, and later, Songs from Northern Britain. In retrospect, Grand Prix gives you the most bang for your buck).

I have to say that seeing some love for Teenage Fanclub in this thread is really giving me the feels

Any TF and Matthew Sweet fans should definitely check out two of the above albums (if they haven't already), Spilt Milk by Jellfyfish and especially Powerbill by The Semantics, the latter of which is power pop perfection.

And Grand Prix is my favorite TF album, since we're sharing

I have to start earlier than #10, sorry. The order is what I had on besteveralbums.com, where I was 90s-heavy, though as I'm making this list I dropped a couple 90s albums to much lower on the chart as I no longer am of the thought they deserved the ranking I gave them. The whole damn thing could be different if I really took time to analyze it.

Same here. It's a perfect album in my book, earning the much coveted "10 star rating" from "Gordon Lightfoot".

Dirt and Jar of Flies are great and a tie for me. Alice in Chains are rightfully regarded as a pioneer of grunge, and a monumental one at that.

Failure is amazing. I loved the grungy space rock they brought to the table. They really did get overlooked. Crazy how they took a 17 year hiatus and are now back at it.
