What Are The Common Arguments On Your Board?

Figure this is a great way to get to know the teams and their situation/challenges.

On the Leafs board

1.Babcock doesn't know what he's doing, he is stubborn when it comes to lines and his system is actually hurting the Leafs far more than it helps, the Leafs should not be that bad defensively as they are with that forward group VS Babcock does know what he's doing, he protects his young players, he has had historical success, the stretch pass actually isn't that bad considering it creates more than it hurts and defensive woes are more to do with meh/disengaged D than it is his stretch pass

2.Sparks is garbage, he will get lit in the NHL and he did nothing to earn the job, we are in win now and we should've kept Mac over him VS Sparks is a great young goalie who may not be the smoothest goalie, but he has done very well in the AHL and deserves a chance, Mac is 35 and will be done soon

3.Gardiner hurts far more than he helps, despite his excellent offense, he makes regularly atrocious passes, is soft and misses assignments, we would be better off with someone like Petrovic, Petry or Tanev, even if we lost Gardiner in the process VS Gardiner is an excellent offensive defenseman and a decent 3-4 guy, he has his downs, but he also helps the team tremendously with his vision and at times a decent shot that we're completely lacking from the back end, if we lost him we would be much worse off

Those are the major ones, apart from that contract numbers and TOI, normal stuff that everyone disputes takes place.

What about your team?

The Wings board argued for years and years and years about rebuilding... but this went on for so long without any major changes that the team eventually burned to the ground anyway. So there isn't really a major schism anymore, just a lot of discussion about the young guys and what they will amount to (same as any team that's not currently competitive, I imagine).

Holy shit the amount of stuff that gets argued about on the Devils bird is almost unheard of. Literally everything to do with Zacha and Severson. Should or should not Ty Smith play in the NHL this year. Prospect pool and why it is not great. If Taylor Hall will resign (by far the most ridiculous). Is Ben Lovejoy an NHL defenseman. How bad is Andy Greene. Our goaltending situation. And about 50 more on top of that

To what extant Tom Wilson needs to change his game and what kind of commitment the Caps should make to Holtby next year or after

Trade every single person over the age of thirty to help the tank vs. keep some vets like Weber to mentor the young guys as they come up

Everything Tom Wilson
The value of Andre Burakovsky (replaced Marcus Johansson as whipping boy)
Brooks Orpik: The $1M sequel
Every upcoming long contract (current focus would be Holtby, but we just got past Oshie, Kuznetsov, Orlov, and Wilson)
Bonus edition argument: Cal Ripken, legendary shortstop who revolutionized the position or overrated bum?

Most debates I see:

-the potential of middle pair defensemen with offensive upside and questionable defense
-the decline of long-time veterans who would otherwise be out of a job were it not for seniority or prospects sucking (spoiler alert: almost no one admits their pipeline sucks)
-why this bottom six plug plays over that bottom six plug, as if that decision is what's really holding back the team...
-what's best for overrated prospect No. 1
-what's best for overrated prospect No. 2
-the complete dismissal of underrated prospect No. 3 based on draft position
-pining for a UFA that isn't actually going to move the needle
-PP configurations/tactics, as if that's going to change the fortunes of a mediocre 5-on-5 team
-implementation and utility of stats vs. qualitative analysis

Per Nassim Taleb, "the minority rule" is definitely in effect on these and all other forums, wherein a small group of people co-opt the discussion based on an intractable stance and thus force the majority of the culture/situation to re-orient itself towards their agenda.

Just the 80/20 rule, I believe science, math and philosophy are like that too.

Majority of gains come from very few people.

Bob Is A Superstar versus Bob Is Just Okay And This Team Would Be Better Off Not Paying Him.

Wennberg Is OK But Seriously Needs To Shoot More versus Wennberg Sucks And Must Be Dumped For The Good Of The Team.

Thankfully, folks have finally stopped whining about William Karlsson and/or using his existence as justification for everything wrong with the team and a few more things besides.

Senators fans should support the team so that they don’t relocate.

Senators fans shouldn’t support the team to force Melnyk to sell.
