I am wondering how many more seasons we can get out of this guy and if he can break the goals record. Consider Jagr, Jaromir.

Right now he's 32. If he makes it to 40 with a few more impressive seasons there's a real chance.

I don't think he'll retire in the NHL, feel like he'll end his career back home in the KHL. Think he stays in NHL for a while longer though. Like 39/40

I think he leaves the NHL after this contract. Probably retires in Russia about 39/40.

Impossible to tell when his body and enthusiasm diminish.....

Throw a dart because that's as good as anyone's guess here.....
Pretty much this. He has played a very physical style and he does not strike me as someone who would stick around to be a 3rd liner. I went with 36, I think he will start to decline before then.

He probably has 5 or 6 seasons in him. He might not be as explosive as before but he definitely will have his best asset, his shot forever. I also think he'll try to catch Gretzky to get the all time goal lead, and won't quit when he still has a shot of reaching that.

it would be nice to see a player like ovechkin have that record

I really doubt gretzkhy could pull those numbers in this era

His parents wrote him a public letter. That gives us some clues on how long he might play. Her mother used to say that he would retire as soon as his current contract expired, but now it looks like they are encouraging him to stay as long as he wants to win the Cup and break Gretzky's record.

Ovechkin's parents congratulate son for scoring 600th NHL goal

So we might see Ovi in the NHL at the age of 40, if he has no health issues.

He won't beat the goal record, but he'll come close enough that adjusted for era he will be without question the greatest goal scorer.

If he is still Cupless, I think he will finish his current contract and then sign another 4-5 year deal, retiring at age 39-40 with the Caps or whatever team signed him. If he wins a Cup in the next 3 years, I think he heads to the KHL sooner than later.

He won't retire until his goal scoring slows down dramatically and none of us have any idea when that will be.

He has 3 more years on his deal after this one, so he'll be 35 when it expires. I doubt he leaves the nhl that early, maybe sign another 2-3 year deal and then go home to the KHL once he catches jagr. He's 165 goals from tying jagr, so at his current pace that's about 4 seasons, but accounting for age + decline let's say takes him 5-6 years to pass him. At that point it's about how far he wants to go.

37. He'll finish out his contract with the Caps, then go Cup chasing for a couple of years, then head home to Russia.

If he finishes out his contract, he'll be 35.

Not sure if he well retire at that point, but there's a chance he will not play in the NHL anymore. I mean, even Jagr is still playing in the Czech Republic, right? I think Kovalev is still playing somewhere too, and he's like 44 or something.

Whenever he catches and surpasses Gretzky's goal record. Which would be awesome and make sense since Ovi is the greatest goal scorer of all time.

I really don't get why he would retire late in his 30s.

Someone like Ovechkin can likely play in the KHL well into his 40s if he really wants, but having the chance to break Gretzky's records is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

If he doesnt regress to the point where he is no longer recognizable as a player I think he will play as long as he feels he has a good shot at scoring more than Gretzky did.

I just hope that there's a way he wins a cup as well .

he can always stick around as a PP specialist ala Tomas Vanek in his late 30s so he will be around for a long time accumulaitng dem goals and stats.
