With the other thread about the Draft starting to be loaded, I thought it was better to have a thread about the Free Agent draft and another one about the Entry Level Draft.

From the WHA website

On Sunday, July 18, teams will draft 30 Entry Level Players. Players undrafted in the past 3 years or drafted but unsigned will be eligible. Sixteen year old players who will be 17 prior to the start of the WHA season will also be eligible.

The draft order for the Entry Level Draft will be announced on Saturday, July 17.

The draft begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.

Here's a good article about the Entry Level Draft. It looks like Sidney Crosby will go first overall, and don't be surprised if it's to the Halifax Ice Breakers. Alexander Ovechkin will likely not be far behind, but it will be interesting to see who goes after and how many europeans will be taken.

I could see this draft going something like this:

1-Crosby
2-Ovechkin
3-Malkin
4-Brule
5-Barker

I bet that if Quebec's top pick is not in the top 2-3, that they will take someone from the QMJHL. Among the likely picks, I'd say Picard or Latendresse.

EDIT : Removed Fleury's name, I feel stupid... :shakehead

Toronto has the #1 pick.

According to the Toronto Star, the owner says they'll be making Sidney Crosby an offer that would make him a/the marquee player on the team.

Well, this one should at least be a helluva lot more interesting than the Free Agent Draft.

You know it.

I would love to see the Toronto franchise take Alex Steen. Not because he's going to come over and play, because he won't... but it would be nice.

Maybe it's just me... but does anyone else doubt it actually takes two hours to do two rounds in a draft with 8 teams?

I was wondering the same thing. They still have 28 rounds to complete.

How did Toronto get Dallas' first round pick?

This isn't updated frequently, yesterday they updated about every 2 hours with about 6 rounds.

I wonder why that is. It's not exactly difficult to do so. And they can't even do what they do get done right, because the links are messed up.

The Detroit Gladiators site seemed to update much faster than the WHA site. Yesterday it had up to the 14th round listed when the WHA one was only showing the 11th round.

Can someone explain to me how/why Zach Parisé could be taken in the "Free Agent Draft", but Steve Bernier (and other recent unsigned draft picks) were taken in the "Entry Draft"?
