Really? You think NHL players of today look similar to NHL players of 30 years ago?

I know many of them now have to take their diets and fitness serious, as this was not an issue at all in the 80s and beyond. But the NHLs drug testing system is a joke.

People are different then 30 years ago, modified wheat, chicken, beef... Ect...

The NHL has a drug problem, but it's not steroids. It's amphetamines. Stuff like sudafed gets tossed around in locker rooms like candy.

They test for that stuff in Olympic years.

God's country
go by the strict letter of the rules, no, it wasn't a bad hit and yes it's a tough game. how can they lessen this from happening? not sure. I know that there is a lack of respect amongst players. and I get that some scrubs make a living from it all. there is a license out there that if a guy has his head down he is to be cranked. not just taken out of the play, but hit as hard as possible. some fans enjoy it, some don't. I agree that some of the stuff will be outlawed and in less than 20 years. Pet could have just run into Semin, just stood there, and had the same effect (taken him out of the play). this is a long story, a long debate but I think there are still some things that they can do to limit the possibility of injury. they will and to me anyway, it won't take away from the game. I prefer to be entertained by skill hockey............the loss of Semin takes away from that.

that has to do with concern for Semin and player safety. in regards to the success of the team? IMO, the way Muller has them playing, the loss of Semin isn't as big a deal for this team as some may think. the grinders can play this system well and bang in the same amount of offense. they weren't going anywhere anyhow.

Not bring a homer, I don't think, but it has struck me in the past watching our guys play that we DO avoid virtually every opportunity to hit a guy who's head is down, or take liberties with hard hits on the boards, etc. - don't know if that makes us 'soft' or 'nice' but that's the way it's appeared to me. Perhaps BECAUSE of that, we are also vulnerable, because we either don't elect others to do it or we just don't know how to absorb or prepare for hard hits when we're the recipients?

Pretty much, yeah.

Which forwards go out of their way to really hit someone, other than Ruutu? On defense, it's Bellemore, and that's pretty much it. This team just doesn't look to hit people in general.

Not only do they not seek out hits, they actually pull up to avoid them in situations where a check is to be expected. I'm not sure what's driving that aspect of our culture, but it's no way to win games in this league. You don't have to be the Bruins, but you have to have some kind of presence. If nothing else to make opponents keep their heads up.

It may have already been touched on, but pads now are like body armor compared to what they used to be. They do more to cause damage than they do to prevent it. If I'm wearing softer pads, I'm going to be less willing to crack the **** out of a guy than if I'm wearing armor. Hits were just as hard back in the day as they are today, but now you've got guys not having to worry about hurting themselves when delivering a huge hit.

The only problem I have with that hit on Semin was our response. ANY hit on one of your star players warrants a response. That lack of response sums up this team (and EStaal in particular) for the past 10 years.

This team is a heartless, gutless bunch of wussies that lacks any passion whatsoever. Led by our almighty captain Eric (I've had everything just handed to me) Staal. I've had about enough of this ****fest.

Gerbe probably can't wait to get outta here as his passion and ethic don't mesh with the other floating pansy *****.

Keep in mind that this was posted after going 4-2-1 in the last 7 games.

Not calling out the source, he gave the info he was given and I appreciate it.

Just pointing out that we get an inside source for the first time I've ever remembered on these boards, and the info ended up being incorrect.

Not to be an *** ... But: I stated what the team doctor said... I correctly identified the injury. The problem is: the doctor was wrong. The type of injury that Khudobin suffered takes 6-8 weeks to heel... BTW, misdiagnosis is a common occurrence in the Canes' land? (Pitkanen)

He came back out after receiving the hit, if only for a shift or two. Tells me it may not be *that* bad, but who knows with concussions anymore.

Is that a question or a statement? (Not challenging you here, genuinely curious)

Not calling you out. Once again it wasn't about you, I completely recognize and understand it was a bad diagnosis by the doctor. It's about the irony of getting correct inside info and the diagnosis being wrong. It's a frightening insight into what JR deals with on a regular basis.

That's all I've been trying to say this whole time, and no one seems to understand that I'm not calling you out as being "wrong." I'm calling the info wrong. You were correct on the wrong info, to no fault of your own.

Thank you for your info and continued updates, we appreciate it!

Not to worry. The update on the injury is in another thread.

Question... Sorry, should have posed it correctly... Just remember there was a story with Pitkanen's injury

No worries at all. As far as I know there isn't a huge problem with misdiagnoses. The team ortho is a pretty good shoulder guy (though not the best in the area IMO) and his practice is pretty well regarded. The North Carolina State Wolfpack football team and one of the local ballet companies also uses that practice (although a different doctor in that practice) as their team physician. I don't remember all the details with Pitkanen's injury but I don't think a misdiagnosis was part of it - I thought that there were miscommunications between Pitkanen's camp and the team as to how his rehab was going over the off-season.

My info on Pitkanen's injury is completely different.

Realistically: I can not... Way too much information that is based on PURE speculation for a public forum... Such info can damage (possibly unnecessary) reputation of some individuals. Therefore, it might be considered libel. Here is to hoping for Jaane's complete recovery
