Incredibly, what ended up ultimately deciding the Pac 12 North was not Stanford/Washington/Washington State, but rather Oregon State.

The Beavers in mid-October basically had Stanford on the ropes. Up 5 with less than 3 minutes to go, they fumbled and the Cardinal made a clutch 4th down and scored a TD with less than a minute to go.

Had they lost that game, Washington State would have clinched the Pac 12 North 2 weeks ago.

Remember how baseball had the Even Year Giants? College football has Odd Year Stanford.

What happened to Colorado? 10 wins last year and won their side of the division. Currently trailing Utah 28-0 w/ only 5 wins. Fluke? Injuries? Senior-laden team last season?

I think last year they got pretty lucky in many games.

I mean you look at their year last season and they lost to pretty much all the good teams they faced (USC, Michigan, Washington and Ok St.) and pretty easily in each case. They just barely got by Stanford, Utah and Oregon as well. They also relied on other teams to beat USC so that they won the division thanks to that.

The QB was pretty good so he might have played a role but overall I think they caught a lot of teams at the right time and lucked out that others beat USC to give them the division which makes that season look better than it was.

There's not a big difference, there's a slight one. G5 schools are good especially the AAC while the SEC is overrated this year.

There is a huge difference. If you ranked all the teams on both schedules the top 10 would be heavily Alabama's opponents and the bottom 10 would be heavily UCF's.

A "overrated" SEC is still miles better than a supposed "good" AAC.

No there's not. UCF doesn't have an Auburn at the top but besides that the rest isn't that far off. The top of the AAC is really good.

Auburn, Alabama, Georgia and LSU are all definitely better than any AAC team. I would take South Carolina, Miss St and A & M over all the AAC teams on a neutral field. UCF, Memphis and USF would be on par with Kentucky and Missouri. Florida, Ole Miss and Arkansas are better than everyone but the top 3 and still would have a good shot to beat them. Tennessee is much more talented but loses because of their coach. Vanderbilt would be mid to upper tier in AAC.

The talent levels are apples and oranges. Its not close. The AAC needs to start scheduling big time non-conference games if they want to be taken seriously. Houston last year was the best shot at a playoff gig for a non P5 school. Why? Because they throttled Oklahoma and Louisville.

I know UCF would love to schedule those games but those teams won't schedule them unless they do a one and done at their place. We get the Georgia Tech, Pitt, North Carolina and Maryland's who are willing to do a 1 and 1. UF and FSU won't play us here in Orlando and we shouldn't have to only go there to play them.
