So your comparing Alfie with Thornton? Don't beat the straw man too much. Winners win again and bring in a better mentality. That why the Calder Cup was important for our franchise.
Statement still holds true. By your logic, we should be putting emphasis on getting a Cup winner. If, say, Joe Thornton became available... well, he's not a Cup winner, so he doesn't fit the criteria.

the "having cup winners on the team" isnt exaclty the biggest deal...their purpose is to mentally prepare the kids (and in some cases vetrans) who dont know what it takes to get there (the finals)...a cup winner and a stanley cup finalist (which we have) have exactly the same amount of "wisdom" to give.

Rookie: "So veteran, you've been here...what's it like?"

Vet: "Well, we lost our first two games of the series, then got it together and won one on the road, then we lost the next one then lost a close one at home, so the games were close but we didn't know how to win...or we didn't have the right players to win."

Rookie: "Thanks hoss. :help: :help: :help: "

Absolutely, winning a cup means nothing. If you suck as a player, you'll still suck whether your name is on the cup or not. And viceversa, of course. We need quality players, and I think this team has some. A couple of good additions, maybe guys coming up from the minors and we'll be a force to be reckoned with.

Disagree completely. Winning a Cup (and playing a vital role therein) means you have WON, it means you're one of the select few on the planet that knows what it is like to go through three months of grueling play and what it takes to win. The only people on this team that have this knowledge are Sergei Gonchar and MacLean.

What vets with cup experience did LA have last year ?

Drew Doughty won at the Olympics and World Juniors, Richards same thing, they had guys that had got it done at high levels against Internationals. Hextall is in their org, Conn Smythe winner and Vezina winner.

This team should definitely look to adding some winners when it is time for it to contend. That isn't for at least a few years so just let the team grow.

The Kings had 3 players on their team that won previously won the Stanley Cup.

Rob Scuderi has already been mentioned.

Justin Williams won the Cup with Carolina back in the 2005-06 season, and he was a big part of their core.

Dustin Penner, for all his faults, won with Anaheim (how could any Sens fan forget), and he had a very good playoff in 2011-12.

The Kings also had several players that played in the Cup finals previously - Richards, Carter, Gagne, Stoll, Greene, and Moreau, so they had plenty of players with Cup experience.

I think adding a veteran or two with Cup experience would be extremely beneficial to the young guys. Obviously, the veterans should also be contributors, not just guys sitting in the press box and telling stories.

Troy Brouwer would be a nice acquisition, although he likely won't be available. Fourth-line players like Adam Burish and Ben Eager would be very good additions for any playoff team. Corey Sarich would be a nice 3rd-pairing defenceman, and he's recognized as a playoff performer.
