Sure a bubble is better but I don't think a bubble will work either. All it takes is one player to break it and get exposed to the virus.

The problem is the cases in the USA are significantly too high. NHL likely finishes the season because they are playing in Canada.

I'm honestly shocked the NBA didn't bring down the hammer on Lou Williams for what he did. Put the whole thing in jeopardy by going to the strip club. League has spent millions on this and dude didn't last a week. I know they are quarantining him for 10 days but they should have kicked him out altogether and fined the Clippers 5 million minimum for letting it happen. If you didn't want to follow the rules than you could have opted out.

The bubbles have worked well enough so far. NWSL went off without a hitch. MLS had issues getting teams into the bubble but once inside there's been no new cases for a couple weeks. NBA seems to be pretty vigilant on bubble control (we'll see how long they force Lou to quarantine).

MLB was just going to never work because even a bubble isn't feasible. You're playing 15 games per day for most of the season, which means you need a bubble for each region and then at least two playable MLB fields + facilities within said bubble which is impossible to find.

As time goes on though, players will be more inclined to break the bubble. I'm hoping it works because I want to watch sports.

I think the Clipper player has to quarantine for 10 days, so he will miss the first 3 games.

Also,

Toronto now looks super smart for not letting the Jays play there. The Phillies would’ve been there this coming weekend and the Marlins the following week. Glad Canada didn’t cave.

Ahh them democratic socialist countries that put their people and common sense first(ish)... they are the worst right Donalds? ;)

I'll be surprised if the MLB season isn't canceled at some point. Things are getting worse not better in the United States. The virus is circulating through teams. This has the potential to turn very serious very soon.

Yeah I think the bubble breaking is inevitable - its coming back into the bubble that will be the big question. Especially if its someone good during the playoffs.

I didn't see that they only gave Lou 10 days, which is disappointing.

It should be a simple solution: you break the bubble and you're done. No getting back in, no salary for the season, nothing. That should scare people into complying. The PA would never allow that, but it would probably work.

This mess also makes Shaw's earlier outburst about quarantining and being in a bubble look even more petulant and selfish. Because look what happens when you don't take this seriously...

Well, if we regular folk complain that being locked down for months is bad for us mentally, I don't see how we can expect these guys who are used to a much more lavish lifestyle to be confined upwards of months and think nothing of it. I really don't think Shaw's premise was wrong.

Good chance it's cancelled this week IMO.

The handling of the virus in the USA has been a complete clusterf***. If an NHL players breaks the bubble there is a good chance they don't come into contact with someone with the virus. However, an NBA/MLB has a much higher chance of coming into contact with the virus.

I was worried this would happen with the NHL, still probably will.

As soon as there is a problem with infections, everything is put into question, things are tense and people are uneasy, then a big decision will have to be made for everyone's safety. Let's say halfway through round 1 of the playoffs there are 10 covid cases confirmed. That will screw everything up

it blows my mind that the Marlins KNEW they had positives and decided to play anyways

like... why is USA trying to out-dumb everyone on this matter?

Pretty much. We should start to see more MLB players opt out. I fully expect to see players start leaving as early as today.

In the NHL's case, as time goes on the bubble also shrinks in size enormously.

The NHL also has a sizeable bubble in both cities, with plenty of recreational (both indoor and outdoor) and dining options. Teams are going to want to be focused on playing the games anyways, so they will like that there are fewer distractions than other years. It's not like they are playing regular season games; this is for the Stanley Cup.
