That is why it was a reverse hit. It wasn’t because he hit him while skating backwards!

I guess he wasn’t trying to hit him? Players that are inhabiting ice always jump around, that’s normal?

If you can’t even admit he was attempting to hit then we should just move on lol.

Forget the slow mow the real time in this clip if you are in Petterssons skates what do you do with Foegle coming at you to finish his check?

Even Craig Simpson the pro Oiler pbp guy is like wtf lol

Edit: Keep in mind Pettersson also got crushed by Nurse in this series it looked brutal and not called. What is the guy supposed to do?

I don’t blame him in the slightest. And in hindsight it’s the 100% right play. A guy is coming to bulldoze you and he gets leveled instead, and then killed the penalty. It should still be a penalty though imo, albeit a “good” one to take. I will never begrudge a guy for defending himself on a hit.

Only time in history where this call is made, what an embarrassment for the league.

Game 5 penalty recap:

Suter GI - pushed in, BS call
Hughes DOG - legit
Cole holding - soft for playoff standards and Garland got held pretty much the same amount on the Oilers' 2nd goal, BS call
Myers roughing - if they just called the holding the stick penalty on Janmark this wouldn't have happened, BS call
Pettersson charge - get rekt
Joshua interference - McDavid with a swan dive, BS call

Hymen HTS - moronic penalty, clear as day
Janmark - not much of a hockey player, should maybe take up acting
Foegele Int - idiot penalty by an idiot player, good call
Kane slashing - see above
Kulak tripping - "can't do that"

So that's 4 BS calls on the Canucks plus multiple dives by the Oilers.

Add in the BS suspension, the missed high-stick double-minor, the missed slew foots, the missed suspension on Hymen's high-stick, the missed suspension on Kane's high-stick, and it's a miracle the Canucks are up in this series.

Incredible.

Remarkable.

We're you able to hold in a straight face the entire time you typed this out because that's quite the recap, I imagine that took some time.

The only thing that would make this better is if it was done again, but with crayons.

He could have just done a normal reverse hit. It's not like this was Garland trying to reverse hit Desharnais or Nurse, Foegele and Petey are the same listed height.

The issue on the Petey imo is the word 'into', which implies initiation.

Foegele is initiating the contact by trying to hit Pettersson, Pettersson protects himself with a reverse hit, Foegele was not expecting much contact on that & thus got blown up. Doesn't mean that Pettersson initiated the contact or that 'reverse hits' are illegal. Keep in mind Pettersson is 180 pounds soaking wet.

If Foegele was bracing himself like he was expecting real contact, he doesn't get blown up & there's no call let alone debate, imo.

I disagree entirely based on the bolded. The only problem with the play was that he left his feet to initiate the reverse hit. Had he stayed planted, then there’s no call or debate, imo. The only thing Pete does wrong is leave his feet to initiate the reverse hit. That, and his weight has no bearing on wheather the play is legal so 180 means nothing.

It's the playoffs, if every hit that a player leaves his feet is called, we would need a bigger penalty box.

The problem is Foegele is initiating the contact not him. He's ultimately responding to Foegele barring down on him. He had the puck & his back was to Foegele after-all.

Most of the time it's little more discreet whether they left their feet or not. He couldn't have possibly made it more obvious, unless he could somehow tippy toe on his skates first lol.

No, most hits do not have a player leaving their feet prior to hitting someone. In fact, that rarely happens anymore.
